PILES OF BLANKETS IN THE BACKGROUND
ShopRite associates across six states banded together last September in a friendly competition sponsored by ShopRite and General Mills, the annual ShopRite Partners In Caring Cheerios Contest. The theme of this year’s contest was “Providing Hope to the Hungry” and in this spirit, ShopRite associates collected donations at check-outs and held various events, raising $1.27 million to support regional food banks in communities served by ShopRite stores.

On Friday, March 13, the Juniors Girl Scouts of the Tri-Sisters Service Unit of Glassboro, Pitman, Clayton, and Aura, New Jersey gathered to make no-sew fleece blankets. The 50 blankets were donated to Hearts United Against Cancer, an organization that makes care packages for local cancer patients. These blankets will be bundled in the organization’s Care & Comfort Bags, Baskets, and Boxes, which are delivered to hospitals and treatment centers, are delivered to the homes of Cancer Heroes, or are shipped to locations outside the Tri-State area. The blankets wrap Cancer Heroes in warmth, love, and support while they go through treatments. During this event, the Girl Scouts in grades 4, 5, and 6 worked together to tie blankets for a great cause, socialized, and witnessed how a couple of hours of hard work can make a big difference. •
