These days it seems like the workplace is crazier than ever. We’ve become increasingly connected to our devices, multi-tasking like champions and wearing our busy badges of honor with pride. Don’t get me wrong, coming from an operations background I love a fast-paced environment, but sometimes we build the house so quickly that we forget to pour the foundation. I feel very lucky that I can be part of a great culture at my current company. The CEOs take employee wellness very seriously and the ambiance of the office reflects this. We have flexible hours, unlimited PTO, a ping pong room, unlimited snacks, a massage room and professional development programs. We are also very selective in our hiring process to make sure that everyone we consider exemplifies positive energy to match the rest of our team. Studies show that it can take just one negative employee to drag down an entire workplace. Did you know that a positive workplace culture is directly connected to productivity? It seems like a no-brainer, but you would be surprised at how many companies are laggingin the culture department. By investing in their greatest asset (people), companies can drive production immensely. As an employee or business owner, you may be wondering what you can do as an individual to help create positive change. Since we’ve learned that one negative employee can bring a company down, what if the opposite reigns true? Enter: Mindfulness Meditation! Meditation is proven to enhance emotional intelligence, listening skills, memory, leadership skills and can reduce anxiety. The reason why meditation is important for the


workplace is because by investing in yourself, you are directly affecting those around you. Considering meditation as a service to others is a great motivator especially for those who feel a little guilty about taking the time for themselves. With so many benefits, it’s no wonder that numerous fortune 500 companies are integrating meditation into their employee development programs. As someone who has meditated for 20 years, I can say first hand that it has changed my life. Try taking 15 minutes a day for the next five days and see how you feel.
