Welcome to Le Grand Bleu

Like clockwork, the minute our calendar hits July, the itch for travel severely intensifies. The destination of choice is usually the sunny shores of a beach.

HERMĂˆS Bali Beach Towel $550

Imagine the soothing sound of lapping waves teemed with cool sea breeze, a sangria in one hand and a good book in another, while relaxing on the beach. It sounds like a little slice of heaven, but sometimes we forget that, vitamin D aside, the sun is not our friend. Lying in the sun for a prolonged period of time means sustaining skin damage and getting freckles, drying out the skin, which ultimately leads to premature aging. With that in mind, here are a few reminders before you head out to your next fabulous beach vacation.

Sunscreen is an absolute necessity, that is a given. Whether chemical or physical, be sure to apply sunscreen and touch up every two hours, or immediately after getting out of the water. A tan is nice, but not getting sunburned is better.

MARNI Gold-tone resin clip earrings $400

Since you'll be spending the majority of the day under the sun, the moisture levels of your skin are certain to take a deep dive. Without proper hydration, your skin will dry out and start peeling at a surprising rate. While mojitos and sangrias are the beverages of choice on a sunny day, alcohol further exacerbates the condition by dehydrating skin even more. Therefore, if having a few cocktails is a must, make sure to also consume non-alcoholic options like coconut water to rehydrate and replace lost moisture. the world of private islands TeNeues Publishing $65.99

Looking good and feeling great often go hand in hand, and that means feeling free to pack the extra dress or extravagant accessory if you so wish. Flaunt yourself and burn away the stresses of daily, non-vacation life at the beach. You deserve it.

A passion for fashion led Thea Green to found Nails Inc., a company dedicated to innovative, trend-inspired professional nail products. In 1999, Thea, who had been working as a fashion editor then, noticed a lack of high quality manicure services with fashionforward nail colors. An idea was born, and shortly thereafter, the very first Nails Inc. store opened in London to huge acclaim, with a queue stretching all the way down the street.

The brand spread like wildfire, and soon Nails Inc. had nail bars in department stores across the UK and Ireland, serving up their now-famous line of specialty manicures for women on the go. Today, Nails Inc. has 58 salons and tends to 10,000 customers daily. Though you can now purchase

BRAND Brand FEATURE feature

their products internationally, Nails Inc. has remained a truly British brand, and colors are named after famous London landmarks and destinations like Notting Hill Gate, Portobello, St James, Piccadilly Circus and the Thames. Staying in tune with the people who are creating the newest trends is important to Thea, which is why the nail brand works with designers like Issa, Alice + Olivia, Osman and Jonathan Saunders during fashion week. "Having regular exposure to fashion designers and how they work, combined with the ability to manufacture new colors in an instant, has given us quite a unique edge within the nail industry," she said. Thea's fashion background means Nails Inc. colors are always up to speed with the season's most recent trends. This season, with leather popping up all over the catwalk, Nails Inc. introduced the Leather Effect Polish in shades of black and tan that dries to a leather texture—what better way to perfectly complement your new, on-trend leather shorts? "Nail polishes have become the ideal noncommittal, affordable fashion accessory," said Thea. Whether it's leading the way in magnetic polish, 3D glitter, nail jewelry or creating nail polishes with extraordinary finishes (like the new denim effect line), rest assured Nails Inc. is at the forefront in producing the next nail obsession.

1 7:00 A.M. I wake up most mornings

to my son jumping on our bed. My husband makes me a green juice using the new juicer he got me for Mother’s Day. I wash my face followed by a super quick beauty routine. I use Skinceuticals C E Ferulic Serum and a La Mer mois-

turizer with SPF 30, as well as Chanel’s Hydramax Tinted Moisturizer. I take a car over to the office and squeeze in my morning meditation on the way.

9:00 A.M. I grab a soy latte with honey

from Gregory’s Coffee downstairs and head up to the office. On Monday mornings we have a team pow wow to discuss what’s going on in each department. It’s a great way to make sure we all start the week on the same page and that everyone has some time to connect. I’ll then meet with the design team to go over concepts for our upcoming spring ready to wear collection. >>

10:00 A.M. I’ll work at my desk for a few 1:30 P.M. hours on developing prints for spring. At this point, this is the biggest focus for the design team. We are constantly pulling inspiration from art, vintage books, and the Internet, so that we can start piecing together a story. Once we have that initial inspiration, each member of the team will start developing prints, so I’ll spend a good amount of time each day working with everyone on an individual basis.

I grab lunch and sit with my assistant to work on any interviews we need to do or to discuss upcoming collaborations, as well as any special projects we have going on. Right now we are planning a fall editorial shoot for our site, so we are working on getting the models, hair & makeup, photographer, etc.

I’ll sneak out and grab another soy latte, then head back up to the office to meet with Richard Ruiz, who styles my >>

runway shows as well as my lookbook and editorial shoots. He is styling the upcoming fall shoot so we sit down and talk about the direction we want it to go in. The Fall '13 collection was based around the idea of a circus caravan, but we always like to play with those ideas and come up with something visually interesting and beautiful.

6:00 P.M.

I take the subway back home to see my husband and son. My husband cooks dinner most nights and I usually get home in time to finish it with them. I’ll then play with my son for a while and give him a bath before putting him to bed.

9:00 P.M. I like to unwind by watching a few

episodes of whatever my TV addiction is at the time. Right now I’m loving Downton Abbey and True Blood.

11:00 P.M. I

always want to scrub off the grime of the city before I go to bed, so I’m a total devotee of the Clarisonic brush. Then it’s off to bed to do it all over again!

We sent Susan Naci, a member of our team, for a Brazilian Blowout at Salon AKS in midtown Manhattan and she returned with amazing results. The treatment improves the condition of the hair by creating a protective protein layer around the hair shaft, which eliminates frizz and smoothes cuticles.

"My hair no long er friz zes up like it used to, whi ch is a mir acle in this hum idit y. It look s muc h heal thie r now !"

Salon AKS A certified stylist divides hair into sections to flat iron and further straighten the hair.

What to expect 1

Your certified Brazilian Blowout stylist will shampoo your hair with a specially formulated Professional AntiResidue Shampoo to prepare your hair for optimal smoothing results.

After towel drying, the stylist will divide your hair into sections and begin applying the solution through each section of the hair from root to top; lightly dusting each section with a brush.

Solution will surround each hair shaft with protective protein layers to smooth and flatten the cuticle.

The stylist will then blow dry your hair as straight as possible with a round brush.

Once the hair is dry, your stylist will divide the hair into four sections and use a flat iron to further straighten the hair in 1 – 1 3/4 inch sections.

Once complete, your stylist will rinse the hair (no shampoo), towel-dry and apply the Acai Deep Conditioning Masque to further seal in the formula. After 60 seconds, the stylist will rinse and towel dry your hair.

The Acai Daily Smoothing Serum is then applied to detangle and smooth the hair for the final blow dry.

Last, the stylist will blow dry the hair straight and style as desired.

Enjoy 12 weeks of smooth, frizz-free tresses in just 90 minutes.

Health & Beauty: Skin Care

your essential guide to

Perfect Skin Beauty Editor Xiao Lim shares her tips on how to achieve a glowing complexion.

Water covers 71% of the Earth's surface and is crucial to the survival of all known forms of life. It's no wonder that maintaining moisture levels is one of the most important aspects of skincare. After all, up to 60% of the human adult body is made up of water. Throughout the day, we lose water from our skin through evaporation and respiration, and it is imperative that we replace it to keep skin looking supple.

There are two key kinds of moisturizers: humectants and occlusives. Humectants draw in moisture from the dermis layer to the epidermis (outer) layer of the skin, increasing the water content there to maintain the appearance of well-moisturized, healthy-looking skin. In humid climates, humectants also attract atmospheric moisture into the epidermis. Occlusives, on the other hand, create a hydrophobic layer on the skin's surface to prevent evaporation and seal in moisture. Some examples of humectants are alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) and sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid), while popular occlusives include beeswax, mineral oils, cocoa and shea butters.

Photos: PR, private

Here are three different categories of products that are essential to maintaining the moisture levels of skin:

Health & Beauty: Skin Care

[1.] Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist $48 [2] Gerlain 'Super Aqua Serum' Hydrating Wrinkle Plumper $165 [3] Darphin Intensive Hydrating Serum $41 [4] Philosophy Take A Deep Breath SPF 30 $34

Most mists and toners contain humectants, through their purpose is more to prep the skin or deliver an additional boost of hydration than for actual moisturization. Be wary of choosing mists and toners with high alcohol content, because those are drying. The Tatcha Dewy Skin Mist is the ultimate multitasker—in addition to being both an excellent toner and mist, spritz it on before applying foundation to achieve a healthy, dewy finish.

serums Serums contain a higher concentration of humectants, which makes it the main product in your routine that replenishes skin moisture. Darphin Hydraskin Intensive Skin-Hydrating Serum and Guerlain Super Aqua Serum Hydrating Wrinkle Plumper are two excellent options for maintaining a healthy level of hydration.

moisturizers Finally, your moisturizer works to lock in moisture and prevent moisture loss from skin's tissues. For summer, we are particularly fond of thin, lightweight formulas with some sun protection to further protect the skin from aging, like Philosophy's Take A Deep Breath Oil-free Oxygen Moisturizer SPF 30.

Beauty Tip: After a long stint in the sun, pop a gel eyemask in the fridge and apply to your eyes. The cooling and soothing effects refreshes tired eyes, extinguishes stress lines and reduces puffiness under the eyes.
