Design Proposal for Deirdre Huffines’ Wedding to James Hairston on June 8th, 2019
Ceremony at St Vincent Ferrar
Foyer and Entrance to the Metropolitan Club
The guests will enter the Metropolitan Club and be captivated by the intoxicating fragrance of gardenias permeating the entrance. Pots of gardenia trees will surround the foyer and line a walkway from the curtained entrance to the Great Hall to the magnificent stairs. White Hydrangea bouquets punctuated with ribbons of gardenias will tie back the custom made foyer curtains and decorate the staircases. Waiters holding silver trays of champagne will alternate with the gardenia trees creating a celebratory passageway to the staircase. The rooms are candle lit and illuminated by soft clear washes throughout the room. A trio playing 40’s music will be accompanied by a crooner singing era specific favorites creating an atmosphere of a bygone era so perfectly in tune with the beauty and grandeur of the Great Hall. Clouds of baby’s breath will cascade across and down the mantle making an ethereal backdrop to the musicians.
Cocktail Reception in the President’s Ballroom Option 1 •One direction we can take for the cocktail reception centers around a 10’ champagne tower placed in the center of the ballroom. 2 bars would be placed at the ends of the ballroom with high and low cocktail tables throughout. I thought it would be fun to have a clubby speakeasy vibe with palms trees and palm fronds, shades over the candles, and red roses on the cocktail tables something to differentiate the cocktail reception from the dinner
As a second option We would use ice sculptures for either a 20’ bar on the west side of the room, as the focal point of a champagne tower, or as dramatic accents to a long bar and buffet stations. There are a variety of creative and artful uses for ice and they can work back with the same dÊcor
Dinner Dance Reception in the West Lounge
Dinner in the West Lounge The room will be strikingly decorated with a combination of rectangular and round tables all with mirrored tops to reflect the beautiful painted details of the ceiling onto the tables. The rectangular tables will have an eclectic assortment of opulent flower arrangements as well as single bud vases punctuating the table amidst novelty votive, pillar and taper candles and candelabrum so that there is shimmering candle light throughout the room. The round tables will have a variety of candelabrum opulently decorated with floral garlands cascading onto the table. The color of the flowers will take their cue from the architectural elements and palate of the room. Champagne and caramel with blush and rich accents or garnet for the roses, peonies, ranunculus, lisianthus and color infused hydrangea.
Dancing in The Great Hall The Great Hall will be transformed while guests are dining with lush baby’s breath garlands decking the grand staircase, the gardenia trees placed around the perimeter of the Great Hall, mirrored and lucite cocktail tables and chairs as well as semi circular couches will be strategically placed for comfort and viewing of the dancing. The Member’s Bar will have a dessert buffet and additional comfortable seating
