Cedar Valley Memories 18th annual Steam Power Show set Aug. 10 and 11 One of Mitchell County's biggest attractions, as well as one of the most unique in Iowa, is the Cedar Valley Memories Smolik Exhibit, displaying some of the most rare, antique steam tractors and farm implements to be found anywhere. That unique collection will come alive during the 18th annual Cedar Valley Memories Power Show in Osage Saturday and Sunday, August 10-11. The show will take place on the Cedar Valley Memories grounds near Osage. This year's event will feature rare and antique John Deere tractors.

In addition to all the steam engines, live demonstrations of oldtime saw mills, basket weaving, blacksmithing, rug hooking, spinning and screwmaking will be part of the show. The museum, located two miles west of Osage on Highway 9, is open each weekend from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day. On display in the Smolik Exhibit is Osage's own 1901 Frazee automobile, the first registered gas-powered car manufactured in Iowa, and the only car ever made, designed and

assembled in Osage. Other rare pieces of machinery include five unique antique steam engines: a 1913 Case model 110 engine, a 1922 Advance-Rumley, the 1912 Reeves 40-140 Cross Compound engine, a 1910 Phoenix caterpillar log-hauler and a 1878 Blumentritt steam tractor along with a collection of antique farming implements--all gifts of the late-Ed and Evelyn Smolik and the late Ray Smolik to be used as permanent displays in the Smolik Exhibit.

About the Bel-Air Estates Drive-In Theater The Bel-Air Drive-In was one of the first combination drive-in/fly-in theaters in the country. At its peak, the Bel-Air Fly-In Drive-In Theater held 100-150 cars per night, plus any small planes that decided to fly in, land on the grassy runway, taxi in, grab a speaker and watch the show. After the show was over, planes would simply reverse their route and fly off. The drive-in ceased operation when strong winds blew down half the screen in the late 1970s. Current owners are Steve and Lorraine Beland. They resurrected the movie screen in 2008.
