LINCOLN —  Dennis Bell and Gloria Larsen Bell of Lincoln, Nebraska, were married Feb. 2, 1964, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion, S.D. The couple will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a card shower. Cards can be sent to Dennis and Gloria Bell at 5040 NW 2nd Street, Lincoln, Nebraska 68521. The couple’s children and their spouses are Tammy (Harlan) Sorensen, Clay Center, Neb., Bryan (Lisa) Bell, Lincoln, Neb., and Trent (Jenny) Bell, Omaha, Neb. They have seven grandchildren.

Upper Iowa announces Fall Dean’s List

To be recognized, undergraduates must have earned a minimum 3.50 grade point average for the semester, and be enrolled as a full-time student. Sunrise Rotary Club Student Hudson Michael Lura OMAHA, Neb. —  Hudson Michael Lura was born Nov. 21, 2013, in Omaha. His parents are Jason and Amanda Lura of Omaha. Grandparents are Dennis and Cheryl Lura of Plymouth, Iowa, and Loren and Vicki Lamprecht of Omaha, Neb.

Award & Achievement Grand View University Honors DES MOINES —  Recognition for outstanding academic achievement for the 2013 fall semester at Grand View University, was given to the following North Iowa students. Students named to the President’s List earned a grade point average of 4.0 while carrying at least 12 hours of classes. Students named to the Dean’s List earned a grade point average of 3.5 or better, on a 4.0 scale, while carrying at least 12 hours of classes. PRESIDENT’S LIST  Mollie Erpelding, John Gifford. MASON CITY —  Faith Schmidtke was chosen as Student of the Month for December, by the Mason City Sunrise Rotary Club. She is a senior at Mason City Alternative School and is the daughter of Schmidtke Tom and Jan Schmidtke. When Schmidtke is not busy with school activities, she currently works. She is still considering her choice of schools after graduation.

Schleusner named to Clarke Dean’s List DUBUQUE —  Brittany Schleusner, of Garner, was named to the Dean’s List at Clarke University for the fall 2013 semester. The list recognizes full-time students who earned a 3.65 grade-point average or above, on a 4.0 scale, with a minimum of 12 graded hours.

Koenen competes with Dance Team PELLA —  Central College sophomore Emily Koenen, of Hampton, competed with the dance team at the 2013-14 ISDTA State College Dance Team championships Dec. 5-6 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The team competed in the NCAA Division III college division and took first place in three categories. The Central College dance team won first place in pom, jazz and hip-hop. The team will compete April 9-13 in the NDA Nationals competition in Daytona Beach.

St. Olaf College Dean’s List NORTHFIELD, Minn. —  Michael Betz, of Mason City, and Amber Wood, of Charles City, were named to the 2013 fall semester Dean’s List at St. Olaf College. The Dean’s List recognizes students with a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher, on a 4-point scale.

Abbey named to President’s List at Truman State KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —  Drake Abbey, of Lake Mills, was named to the 2013 fall semester President’s List at Truman State University. To qualify for the list, undergraduate students must attain a 4.0 grade point average and complete 12 semester hours of credit.

Wimber, Josten CHRISTY WIMBER, of Lakewood, Colorado, is the daughter of Charles and Betty Wimber of Lakewood, Colorado. Christy graduated from the University of Colorado with a BA in International Studies in 2011, and is employed by Lutheran Family Services in Denver, Colorado. MICHAEL JOSTEN, of Denver, Colorado, is the son of Dean and Miriam Josten of Ventura, Iowa. Michael graduated from Ventura High School in 2008 and also Taylor University with a BA in Christian Educational Ministries in 2012. He is employed by the African Center of Denver in Denver, Colorado. The couple will be married on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Celebration Community Church in Denver, Colorado.

Award & Achievement Sunrise Rotary Club Student MASON CITY —  The Mason City Sunrise Rotary Club selected Rachel Bormann as Student of the Month for December. She is a senior at Bormann Newman Catholic High School, and

is the daughter of Jerome and Kathy Bormann. Bormann participates in Student Council, National Honor Society, spring musicals, is editor of the yearbook and has lettered in both volleyball and track. She plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa, and major in accounting.

Military Note Private First Class Connor R. Grunwald graduated from a 13-week Marine Corps boot camp in San Diego, Calif., on Dec. 13, 2013. He was one of three Marines, out of 476, who was acknowledged with a perfect score on the physical fitness test. Pfc. Grunwald enjoyed the holidays with his family in Ventura, and assisted his recruiter Sgt. Josh Kearby in duties, the week prior to returning to California. He returned to Camp Pendleton, Calif., for three weeks of Marine Combat Training (MCT) and then will continue on to his job school located at 29 Palms, Calif., near Miramar. He will be trained in the field of Ground Electronic Maintenance. Being such a broad area of study, he will be assigned a more specific duty upon arrival.

After completing the job training there, he will be sent to his permanent duty station at any one of the many Marine bases around the world. Pfc. Grunwald is the son of Dan and Judy Grunwald, Ventura, and the brother of Ryan Grunwald.
