HAMPTON — Franklin REC (Rural Electric Cooperative) announced its Basin Power Electric Cooperative scholarship winners. A $1,000 Basin Electric Power Co-op scholarship was awarded to Spencer Claypool, son of Bryce and Anne Claypool, Hampton. He is a student at Hampton High School. Army Reserve Private First Class Joshua T. Trettin returned to Joint Base McGuire-Dix -Lakehurst, N.J., after being deployed to Iraq, serving in support of Operation New Dawn. Members from all branches of the U.S. military and multinational forces assisted in rebuilding Iraq’s economic and governmental infrastructure. Noon Rotary ‘Students of the Month’ MASON CITY — Sheila Evans and Siri Hansen, seniors at Mason City High School, were selected as the Mason City Noon Rotary Club’s “Student of the Month” for March. Sheila Evans is the daughter of Jhijs Hani S. Evans and William Evans. She is a member of the Mason City High School Student Senate, National Honor Society, Senior Evans Planning Committee, and is a varsity player for the Mason City High School girls tennis team. She has also been a member of the Mason City High School speech team, concert choir, Best Buddies, and Architecture, Construction, and Engineering (ACE) Mentor Program. Her awards and honors include: Principal’s List, Honor Roll, ACE Mentor Program scholarship recipient, and AP Scholar Award. Evans’ volunteer activities include working at the LifeServe Blood Center and Red Cross blood drives, and Salvation Army. She also works daily in managing the Mason City High School Book Room. Evans plans to attend Iowa State University next year and pursue a degree in civil engineering.
Siri Hansen, is the daughter of Steve and Janet Hansen. Siri is a member of the Mason City High School concert choir and symphonic band. She is in Drama Club and has been in Hansen the school plays all four years. She has also been on the Speech Team all four years. Siri played soccer her freshman year and has played in the pep band “Mohawk Power.” She gives weekly piano lessons, babysits, works concessions for Mohawk games, and does volunteer work through the Silver Cord program. Siri is on the Principal’s list, Honor Roll, and is a member of National Honor Society. She is an All-Stater in speech (for poetry, for band (on oboe), and for orchestra (on oboe). Siri attends Wesley United Methodist Church. There, she works in the nursery and has been a preschool Sunday School teacher, a singer in the Adult Praise Band, a pianist in the Youth Praise Band, and sang in the choir. She has done the Crop Walk, 30 Hour Famine, and other volunteer activities. Siri plans to attend Wartburg College next year and pursue a degree in music therapy.
