Schmale receives outstanding scholar award

MASON CITY — Stewart and Nicole Frascht, of Mason City, are parents of twins, a son, Rylan, and daughter, Piper, born July 24, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center — North Iowa, Mason City. Piper was born at 3:36 a.m. and weighed 5 lbs., 13 oz., and was 19.5 inches long. Rylan was born at 3:38 a.m. and weighed 6 lbs., 10 oz., and was 20 inches long. Rylan and Piper are welcomed by big sister, Zoé. Grandparents are Alan and Dodie Wilkins, of Nora Springs, and Mike and Geri Frascht, of Charles City. Great-grandparents are Delbert and Dorothy Witt, of Mason City, Alice Wilkins, of Nora Springs, Betty Hovey, of Charles City, and Gus Frascht, of Charles City. Great-great-grandma is Vivan Piper, of Mason City.

Larson, 40 years WESLEY — Duane Larson and Audrey Youngwirth Larson of Wesley, Iowa, were married Aug. 20, 1971, at St. Joseph’s Church in Wesley. The couple will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Johnny’s in Wesley. The couple has requested no gifts please. Cards can be sent to the couple at P.O. Box 85, Wesley, IA 50483. We invite all relatives and friends to celebrate with us.

MESERVEY — Dr. Cara N. Schmale, a 2011 doctorate of pharmacy graduate at the University of Iowa, was awarded the 2011 College of Pharmacy Faculty Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award, given to the 2011 graduate with the highest grade point average. Cara graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy on May 12, 2011 with highest distinction. She is the daughter of Monty and Lori Schmale, of Meservey, and the granddaughter of Carol Luecht, of Sheffield, and Vernon and Sharon Schmale, of Meservey. Cara is employed with HyVee Pharmacy in Waterloo.

Lily Ann Burtness CLEAR LAKE — Holly and Doug Burtness, of Clear Lake, are the parents of a daughter, Lily Ann Burtness, born at 8:28 a.m. June 16, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center — North Iowa, Mason City. She weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz. and was 18½ inches long. Lily is welcomed by siblings Aiden, Alexandra and Mackenzie. Grandparents are Kathy and Don Kliven, and Janet and Larry Burtness.

The family of Gail Tomlinson would like to say “thank you” to everyone that sent cards, flowers, food or drink and other items. Also, to those that offered condolences, prayers and special memories.
