—— SELF PORTRAIT OF IDENTITY ——

—— SUMMARY —— ESTABLISHED IN APRIL 2016, GLI INFORMALI INTERNATIONAL COLLAGE ARTIST COLLECTIVE BRINGS TOGETHER COLLAGE AND MIXED MEDIA ARTISTS FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, WITH VARYING ARTISTIC BACKGROUNDS AND EXPERIENCES. WE FOCUS ON FREE EXPRESSION IN ORDER TO CREATE NEW DIALOGUES, PERSPECTIVES AND EXPERIENCES.WE CHALLENGE THE PRECONCEPTION THAT ARTISTS ARE SOLELY CONCERNED WITH OUR PERSONAL NARRATIVE, INDIVIDUAL ACTION OR THE MAINSTREAM COMMERCIAL ART WORLD. OUR COLLECTIVE IS A NON HIERARCHICAL SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY THAT IS BASED ON THE PRINCIPALS OF SELF ORGANIZATION, AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION. FOR US ANALOGUE COLLAGE IS A GREAT WAY TO CONNECT WITH OTHERS, EXPRESS WHAT WE FEEL ABOUT DIFFERENT ISSUES, ABOUT OURSELVES AND THE WORLD AROUND US. WE BELIEVE ART IS FOR EVERYONE AND COLLAGE IS A TECHNIQUE THAT PERMITS ANYONE THE POSSIBILITY TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES. ——

—— THEME —— THE CREATION OF THIS COMMUNITY IS BASED ON THE INTERESTS, PERSONALITIES, AND EXPERIENCES OF ITS MEMBERS. LARGELY A DIGITALLY BASED NETWORK, GLI INFORMALI HAS SELECTED THE FIRST THEME “SELF IDENTITY” AS OUR ATTEMPT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT EACH OTHER, AND CREATE A STRONGER COLLECTIVE. TECHNOLOGY AND COLLAGE HAVE BROUGHT US TOGETHER, HOWEVER WE BELIEVE THAT THE EXPRESSION OF OUR INDIVIDUALITY THROUGH OUR ART ENABLES US TO CONNECT WITH OTHERS AND STRENGTHEN OUR EXISTING CONNECTION. ——

—— TITLE: ARACHNOPHOBIA ——

——

2 ——

DOROTHÉE DOTTKE —— WETZLAR GERMANY —— SOMETHING THAT COMES OUT OF NOTHING. OFTEN DETAILS AND BLANK SPACES ARE MORE INTERESTING THAN CONCRETE FORMS. I ARRIVED AT THIS PIECE QUICKLY AND HAD TO MAKE A DECICION IF IT WORKED AS A COLLAGE. I LIKE THE IMPERFECTIONS, LIKE WHEN EVERYTHING BECOMES PLAYFUL AND SOMETHING NEW CAN ARISE. THEN TO ADJUST TO ZERO, THROWING EVERYTHING ELSE AWAY. ——

—— TITLE: SCHICKSALSWALTEN ——

I WANTED THE PIECE, COMPOSITIONALLY, TO APPEAR TO BE FOREVER SHIFTING AND GROWING, IN CONSTANT, CONTINUED METAMORPHOSIS“ ——

——

8 ——

MARIANO ALONSO —— BUENOS AIRES ARGENTINA —— PEOPLE ARE PIERCED BY THEIR HISTORY, BREAKS THAT DIVIDE AND OPEN UP NEW SPACES OR INTERNAL LANDSCAPES. A TRANSPOSITION FROM THE INSIDE TO THE OUTSIDE. A REVIEW OF APPARENT LIMITS. ——

MARISA MAESTRE —— MADRID SPAIN ——

MY PIECE IS THE REFLECTION OF MY OWN OBSESSIONS, THE DUALITY BETWEEN THE EARTHLY AND THE DIVINE, THE ANECDOTICAL AND THE TRANSCENDENT, SPACE AND TIME, LOVE AND HATE, INDIFFERENCE AND SUGGESTION. ——

—— TITLE: OBSESION ——

——

10 ——

MUSTA FIOR —— LA ROCHELLE FRANCE —— THE IDEA OF THIS COLLAGE IS TO SHOW MY CREATIVE PROCESS. IN MY CASE, IT IS OFTEN BETWEEN THE FIGURATIVE AND THE ABSTRACT, WHICH ARE MY TWO REGULAR SEARCHES. ——

—— TITLE: “EN EXCLU”, OCTOBRE 2016 ——

——

11 ——

NIKO VARTIAINEN —— TURKU FINLAND —— MY “PORTRAIT” IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF ME AND MY WORK, SIMPLE AND STRAIGHT LINED ENSEMBLE, WHERE THE MAIN THOUGHT IS PLAYFULLY TURNED UPSIDE DOWN WITH A DARK PLAYFUL TWIST. ——

—— TITLE: YOU DON‘T HAVE TO TEST ME ——

——

12 ——

OLGA LUPI —— BETTON FRANCE —— THIS COLLAGE EXPRESSES THE COMPLEXITY OF THE THOUGHT WHICH WE EXPERIENCE SOMETIMES AS WELL AS THE PHYSICAL PAIN PERCEIVED DAILY. ——

—— TITLE: CCQ HEADACHE ——

——

13 ——

PETER DOWKER —— LAC BROME, QUEBEC CANADA. —— THIS COLLAGE IS FROM A SERIES I DID IN OCT. - NOV. 2015 ENTITLED RED STAR LINE. A NEIGHBOUR GAVE ME SOME VERY OLD CARDBOARD BOXES FULL OF VINTAGE MAGAZINES. AS I WAS SORTING THROUGH THEM, I SAW THE POSSIBILITY TO COMBINE SOME OF THE FABULOUS VINTAGE PEOPLE PHOTOGRAPHS WITH THE AGED, WORN BOXES THEMSELVES. THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. ——

—— TITLE: RED STAR LINE 15 ——

——

14 ——

PHIL CARNEY —— MILTON KEYES UNITED KINGDOM —— I WANTED TO MAKE AN ABSTRACT PORTRAIT OF MY SELF, OR MORE SO TO SHOW THE CHANGE WITHIN A PERSON OVER A PERIOD AND THE MANY FACES THEY CAN HAVE OR HATS THEY CAN WEAR. THE COGS I WANTED TO SHOW THE PASSING OF TIME. ——

—— TITLE: HATS AND COGS ——

——

15 ——

RACHEL DERUM —— MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA —— THE ENIGMATIC BEAUTY OF THE INDIVIDUAL MIND IS DESCRIBED BY POET MARGARET ATWOOD AS‚ “A TOTAL UNIVERSE, ITS DIFFERENT COLOURS, FLOWERS, ITS UNDISCOVERED ANIMALS, VIOLENT OR SERENE. ITS OTHER AIR, ITS CLAWS, ITS PARADISE RIVERS.” THIS COLLAGE BEGINS TO DESCRIBE MY OWN INTERIOR UNIVERSE; MEMORIES, DREAMS, FEARS AND DESIRES SWIRLING IN AND OUT OF ATTENTION. IMPERCEPTIBLE ONE MOMENT AND MONUMENTAL THE NEXT, SYMBOLS OF LIFE, DEATH, LOVE AND SORROW DANCE GRACEFULLY THROUGH THE MYSTERIOUS REALMS OF MY DEEPEST CONSCIOUSNESS. ——

—— TITLE: ITS OTHER AIR, ITS CLAWS, ITS PARADISE RIVERS ——

——

16 ——

RAFFAELLO PACINI —— CAGLIARI ITALY —— COLD WATERS AND A GLOOMY RED SKY. A SUFFERING GRIN AND AN ARM THAT EMERGES AS A SEA MONSTER: THIS COLLAGE IS CALLED “FORGOTTEN DAYS“. IS A PART OF ME, A PORTRAIT OF RAFFAELLO FORGOTTEN IN SOME REMOTE OCEAN OF MY MIND. IS FELT DURING THE NIGHTS OF LONGING, HE BREATHED HIS ICY BREATH. HE WOULD LIKE TO GET YOU AND DRAG YOU DOWN WITH HIM, TO MAKE YOU REMEMBER PAINFUL MEMORIES, OR DISTANT TIMES. I MEET HIM STILL OFTEN, DURING MY WANDERINGS, BUT I KNOW HOW TO FIGHT. ——

—— TITLE: FORGOTTEN DAYS ——

——

17 ——

STEFAN SCHNEIDER —— BERLIN GERMANY —— BEFORE I BEGIN GLUING TOGETHER A COLLAGE, OR EVEN PUT A PIECE OF PAPER IN MY HAND, I TRY TO PICTURE THE END RESULT. SOMEWHERE BETWEEN CEREBRUM AND CEREBELLUM FORMS, COLOURS AND GRAPHICAL ELEMENTS START A DANCE. INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS BECOME AN ENTITY; GEOMETRIC CONSTRUCTIONS EVOLVE AND MOVE TOGETHER – A DANCE PARTY ENSUES! ——

—— TITLE: ES TANZT! ——

——

18 ——

STEVE TIERNEY —— OAXACA MEXICO —— ALMOST ALL OF MY COLLAGES ARE SELF-PORTRAITS IN SOME WAY. MANY OF MY WORKS ARE PERSONAL REFLECTIONS OF MY THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS AT THE TIME OF CREATING THEM. THIS PIECE REFLECTS A PART OF MY PERSONALITY, WHICH IS THE STRUGGLE OF IDENTITY AND PERSONALITY OVERALL. I OFTEN FEEL THAT I AM MORE THAN ONE PERSON. THIS IMAGE PORTRAYS A CHARACTER THAT HAS TOTAL CONFIDENCE IN THEMSELVES, YET AT THE SAME TIME IS EQUALLY IN FEAR AND DOUBT OF WHO THEY ARE. ——

—— TITLE: UNTITLED ——

——

19 ——

SUSAN RINGLER —— DARLINGTON, MD UNITED STATES —— THIS COLLAGE DESCRIBES ME AS A CHILD. I GREW UP WITH TWO BROTHERS AND LIKED TO DO THE SAME THINGS AS THEM, LIKE CLIMBING TREES. MY AUNT BETTY BOUGHT ME A LOVELY DRESS WHICH MY MOTHER DISCOURAGED HER FROM PURCHASING WITH THE REASONING THAT IT WOULDN‘T BE LONG BEFORE I RUINED IT. MY MOTHER WAS RIGHT. THE MOMENT I PUT IT ON, I RAN OUTSIDE AND CLIMBED UP A TREE AND PROCEEDED TO RIP THE BEAUTIFUL DRESS! ——

—— TITLE: THAT FUCKING DRESS ——

——

20 ——

TANJA ULBRICH —— MADRID SPAIN —— MY NATURE (MI NATURALEZA) IS A COLLAGE THAT REFLECTS MY LOVE OF SILENCE, SOLITUDE AND MYSTERY. I AM ENTHRALLED BY THE MAGICAL PROCESS OF COLLAGEMAKING AND ENJOY THE SEARCH FOR THE RIGHT PALETTE OF COLOURS, TEXTURES, AND IMAGES WITHIN A MULTITUDE OF PAPERS, PHOTOS AND MAGAZINES. THE FINAL COLLAGE IS INVARIABLY AN EXPRESSION OF MY INNER SELF, AND MY EXPERIENCE OF THAT PARTICULAR MOMENT. ——

—— TITLE: MY NATURE (MI NATURALEZA) ——

——

21 ——

TCHAGO MARTINS —— SÃO BERNARDO DO CAMPO BRASIL —— I AM A FRUSTRATED SKATER, LOVE TYPOGRAPHY AND NOW TAKE THE SMOOTH LIFE AS THE CENTRAL CHARACTER, HAVE FUN ON A WALK WITH MY DOG THAT IS VERY SIMILAR TO THIS. ——
