Mr. Gibson’s Desk: Principal Notes

Welcome Spring! I hope your families had a fantastic break last week and are ready for the final push to the end of the school year. There are only two short months before summer vacation and it is sure to fly by. We are dedicated to make these final months of the school year at MCS fun and exciting for our students. Space Camp May 1st and 2nd MCS is hosting the grade 9 class of the Calgary Connect Charter School along with our junior high students for a two day immersive space camp. This means that the population of our school will increase by 100 students! Guest speakers, as experts in their fields, will be on hand to answer the students’ questions and give them first hand knowledge about current research. This will also include a visit from Mars One candidate Zac Trolley on Friday and a four meter high inflatable planetarium! The students will work in teams to participate in problem-solving and cooperative challenges to push their skills. Thursday evening the students will also be attending a night session at the Rothney Observatory where they will have an opportunity to learn more about research happening in our back yard. Our other students will also be involved in some of the keynote sessions taking place throughout the two days whenever appropriate. Walk-a-thon and 30-30 Challenge! Thank-you to all of our volunteers for working tirelessly to set up a month of movement here at MCS! The month of May starts off with an assembly on Thursday, May 1st at 10:30 where the students will receive their pedometers and start tracking their movements over the month of May. Culminating on May 30th with the official walk-a-thon day, which is sure to be a whole community event! Check the announcement board for our school’s progress and more details. As part of this month, I would also like to remind you to take the 30-30 challenge. Go outside for 30 minutes for the 30 days of May with your families. Now that spring has arrived, this should be a breeze! If you are interested in sharing some of the activities or experiences you have in this challenge, please forward photos or stories to me to share in the next Blue News!

Please look forward to attending our next
