From Our Secretary
Since the Oct AGM the Committee elect has been exceptionally busy learning new roles and new responsibilities that will benefit and grow the Club. One of the first things we did was create a “Wish List” for maintenance, upgrades, funding, sponsorship etc. Then we went one step further to plan long term to ensure not only growth in the Club, but to be recognised as a venue of choice within the Community for all event types. Over the last few months Committee members and their support teams have Glenfield Rugby Union & Sports Club Inc
been working tirelessly around the Club painting, cleaning, repairing, meeting with Clients & suppliers, meeting with respective Sponsors, learning about Grant applications etc and this has been a big ask, but very humbling to see the time they take out of their very busy lives without question. Everyone outside the Committee that lends a hand please accept this as a personal thank you from me. I must say how fantastic the Club looks with its freshly painted exterior and upstairs bar. The kitchen has undergone some TLC thanks to Speed, and it should be open for business soon. Short and Long term plans will be revealed over time. A special mention must go to the pods of Sponsors we now have: Mitre 10 Mega Glenfield – a partnership has been formed that we are exceptionally proud to be part of and you can see all the great signage in and around the Club. Mitre 10 Mega
Glenfield have worked on a loyalty plan for Glenfield Club members and we will communicate this soon. Northern Forklifts – again our loyal Sponsor has returned for the 2012 season, which we are humbled by and very grateful for. 22 Jersey sponsors – this initiative saw the 22 Premier jersey numbers sold to Club members and local businesses and in return their Logo / Name will be printed on the back panel of the new strip. We have discussed lots of initiatives and ideas amongst ourselves and with some of you members, but if you have any ideas come and talk to us. To help keep you up to date with Club news, we are now on Facebook and have done some extensive improvements on the Club web site. Visit both and see what you think….also if you do not have access to either of these avenues, give us your postal address or email and we will gladly send you updates via your preferred channel.
We are extremely grateful to the businesses and individuals that are getting behind us and are committed to the Glenfield Rugby Union & Sports Club Inc for the upcoming 2012 Season. We look forward to building a long lasting relationship with each and everyone of you. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor contact Alan Linstrom Ph: 021 415278.

The 7’s Season The Season kicked off back in November 2011, with the North Harbour Club Sevens. Glenfield entered two teams - Premiers and Under 20s.
The Premier team had a brilliant campaign drawing with Northcote, beating Marist, Takapuna, and North Shore II, losing unfortunately in the final against North Shore I. From this campaign Jack McPhee, Rangi Otene and Michael Little were included in the North Harbour 7’s training squad.
The Glenfield 7’s tournament was held in February, with a very young inexperienced team taking the field.
However these boys made us proud, winning there pool games against Mahurangi, Waitemata and Tamatea, losing to Massey in the Cup Semi-Final and Ponsonby in the 3rd/4th Play Off.
Michael Little was nominated by North Harbour Rugby Union and sponsored by the Infinity Foundation Ltd to attend the High Performance Players Course at the International Rugby Academy New Zealand Limited (IRANZ) in Palmerston North.
The course was an intensive three week course held in late January and Early February. It covered the crucial physical, mental and core business skills required to become a successful professional rugby player. Mental toughness and rugby intelligence modules. Serious position specific attention and analysis. It identifies strengths and weaknesses. Team coaching with current and former professional coaches and players. At the HPP Awards Ceremony Michael was awarded Best Back Performer.
The Under 20’s team beat East Coast Bays and Kumeu, losing to Northcote in the Semi-Final. In January, the Premier 7’s team headed Mount Maunganui for the Mount Maunganui Invitation Sevens Tournament.
In late December, North Harbour named a 7’s team that headed to Queenstown for the We hope to be able to send more promising NZ National Rugby Sevens Tournament - the players on future courses. Pub Charity Sevens. Glenfield had two representatives being Jack McPhee and Michael Little.
Maori Rugby Glenfield had numerous players taking the field for the North Harbour Maori Seniors and Colts. Glenfield also had numerous players selected to play for the Norther Region Maori Seniors and Colts. Congratulations to all the players involved.
They beat Southern United and Eden in there pool games, but lost to Massey in the Quarter Final. In the Special Plate SemiFinal they lost to Rangiuru. But mounted a brilliant campaign.
