Crossing the Line:

By Our Selves

Sunday 4 October (19.45) This new film from avant-garde filmmaker Andrew Kötting (Gallivant, This Filthy Earth) documents a four-day walk made by the English Poet John Clare. Exactly 150 years after his death Toby Jones, Iain Sinclair and a Straw Bear (Kötting) follow in his footsteps, bumping into Macgillivray, Dr Simon Kovesi and the wizard Alan Moore. Inspired by Iain Sinclair’s Edge of the Orison and John Clare’s Journey out of Essex, the voyage is narrated by Toby’s father Freddie, a maverick actor who has featured in numerous David Lynch films. Writer and illustrator Mitch Miller will introduce this screening. Director Andrew Kötting, Cast Toby Jones, Alan Moore, Iain Sinclair, UK 2015, 1h23m, 15

Exit Through the Gift Shop

Saturday 3 & Sunday 4 October As the art world descends on Glasgow in the form of the 2015 Turner Prize, here is an opportunity to see one of the great film explorations of the slippery nature of art, its value and function. Directed by street artist Banksy, the film takes its cue from Orson Welles’ F for Fake, ostensibly documenting the work of street artist Thierry Guetta, but telling the facts in a way that consistently defies clear interpretation. Director Banksy, UK 2010, some subtitles, 1h27m, 15
