EMILY GAIR AGAINST ALL ODDS

PHOTOGRAPHY: URBAN STYLZ PHOTOGRAPHY MAKEUP: RIO ROXANNE WRITTEN BY EMILY GAIR - Edited by Drishti Sanger

For all those aware of me being an inspirational speaker, you are probably wondering what I’m doing on the cover of a glamour magazine. The truth is, my job is not to tell people how to dress or express themselves, it is to teach them to be proud of who they are. I have taken it upon myself to show you a part of me that I love, my sexual expression. I am not camera shy when it comes to taking beautiful pictures or even participating in glamour modelling. I honestly believe that the most exquisite form of Art is that of Seduction. A woman’s body, when presented properly, can easily become the most alluring piece of art a person will ever lay their eyes on. Famous galleries around the world proudly hang paintings of breathtakingly nude women, flaunting their sexualities with grace and elegance. There is

an intriguing mystery behind the magic of sex and seduction which come together to play a role in the creation of life. I feel spiritually connected to it all and have come to be inspired by the complexity of it. In order to explain how I got here, I need to turn back the hands of time to show you a darker time. A time before the inspirational speaking or the modelling, a time where trial and error ruled my life. It is only then will you be able to understand the person I have come to be today.

COVER GIRL INITIAL ACCIDENT At the tender age of 17, I was in a horrific car accident that resulted in me having fractured two vertebrates in my spine; my L1 and T12. For four months, I was unable to walk and felt extreme agony. My back was as fragile as a baby’s, but it didn’t stop me from pushing forward. You see, I had a mission; to complete high school and overcome a large drug addiction that had developed years before. The incident caused me to seriously reflect on my life; after all I had was time. Seventeen years old and was taking a spectrum of drugs; from cocaine, ecstasy to alcohol. I knew if I continued, I would die. A person can’t honestly continue to live like this, not after such an awakening. Through this realization, I knew I had to work hard to improve not only my back but my life. It was not an easy task; three hours were spent in the gym daily, training to re-build my back muscles and two days a week in physiotherapy. The pain could not be dulled down even with one day a week in acupuncture or receiving a massage. At this point I was only able to stand and walk with the help of a back brace. The excruciating pain paralyzed my life. A simple act of taking dance lessons, weren’t possible. It was the only thing I desired strongly but I allowed that to become my drive to not give up. My need of taking a dance class, that I had wanted for years, pushed me in the gym as I trained. In those four months, my tremendous amount of work had finally paid off. I was then able to walk, without the use of a back brace. As both feet hit the ground, I became filled with joy. It is something so simple and something we do everyday, stand on our feet. We all take it for granted but I was there grateful as ever, with the world’s biggest smile. Imagine that. If you look around today, people are so concerned with such meaningless and superficial things such as their hair, makeup and body image. They forget what is really important, the simple things. You are perfect the way you are. Imagine if you couldn’t walk, how much would all those things really matter? No one really appreciates the small things until they lose them. Life is better enjoyed by being grateful for what you have and giving to others.

DRUGS This leads to my next point on drugs. I can tell you first hand that partying and abusing drugs will do nothing but destroy you and kill anything good inside and on the outside of your body. They kill your soul, emotions, internal organs, skin and hair. You will no longer be kind, determined, or the beautiful person you were before. Even when you look good and think that doing drugs will get you the next

“Use adversity as a motivator to reach your goals”

This leads to my next point on drugs. I can tell you first hand that partying and abusing drugs will do nothing but destroy you and kill anything good inside and on the outside of your body. They kill your soul, emotions, internal organs, skin and hair. You will no longer be kind, determined, or the beautiful person you were before. Even when you look good and think that doing drugs will get you the next modelling gig, it’s not the case. I used drugs to mask these feelings and to escape from the reality that I was living. I went from living on the streets, to house to house, and one apartment to another. I remember moving 11 times in one year. This is no way to live. My family, whom I am extremely thankful for, never gave up on me. I went into a rehab centre for the second time at 19 years old. I knew it was time to change. I was scared of the unknown and what it would hold. Anytime we face changes in life, it is scary, challenging and full of mixed emotions. I followed the system 100% and found myself feeling happy and healthy. There was only one complication...

‘ “If modeling is an extension of your being, don’t let anyone prevent you from doing it.”

CANCER DIAGNOSIS I started going to the hospital for severe pains in my stomach, I figured it was withdrawals from coming off the drugs. My symptoms consisted of stomach pains, fevers up to 105 degrees, hot and cold sweats and severe migraines. All symptoms of the flu. The doctors sent me home, all on four separate occasions, with antibiotics, telling me I had the flu. (When you go to the doctor’s NEVER let them tell you - you are ok, if you feel there is something wrong. The doctors aren’t always right!) I went back to the women’s recovery home, where I was living, and the pains in my stomach became worse. Three months and multiple tests later, I was admitted to the hospital and still given no answers. Every doctor and nurse in the hospital had a say in what the problem might be. Every test imaginable was done, from cat scans, to spinal taps, but still no results. However, they did manage to find out that my white blood cell count was extremely low, and I had abnormal liver functions. The most difficult part of being deathly ill for six months, was dealing with false hopes; I would start to feel better for a bit only to have the symptoms return. Waiting and wondering became apart of my life. On December 9th 2004, my mother wheeled me into the hospital with a blood pressure of 54/38. I couldn’t move.

I had my last test the next day. A second bone marrow. The doctor came to speak to me, “This is your last test, if we don’t find anything this time, we are sending you to Toronto.” She returned a few hours later and without any resistance, she spoke, “You have cancer. Stage 4B Hodgkins Lymphoma. Chemotherapy begins either tonight or tomorrow morning.” Within a few hours I was on the heaviest form of chemotherapy for Hodgkins Lymphoma. I believe I may have emotionally triggered this by constantly being down and never feeling good enough; always in a need for approval. I needed to begin not only loving but accepting myself, at least for the sake of my life. It is crucial to take care of our body, a lesson I learned the hard way. I partied throughout my teen years only to end up on my death bed, given 3 weeks to live. All I had wanted was to be skinny and pretty enough for my family to love me and wanted to be accepted by society. The price I paid for all this was not worth it. I had been granted a new life and I feel that it is my duty to help others understand how important it is to love themselves. It doesn’t matter what shape, colour, background you are, or whatever career choice you choose; show yourself with pride. I love modelling and I love inspirational speaking - some people have a problem with that combination. I spent too much time caring about the wrong things, no more of that. I am happy with what I do, it makes me feel alive. My body is beautiful and not size 0 nor do I want it to be. Marilyn Monroe was a size 16 and she was beautiful, an icon. Every size is beautiful and society is wrong to make you believe anything else. Eating healthy, staying active, and being at peace with ourselves, are the keys to staying healthy, fit, looking and feeling great. During chemotherapy, I had a feeling I would make it. I used the power of my mind. I decided I would be healthy by the end of my treatment. That is what happened. Our mind creates our outcome.

PREGNANCY My doctor had told me, there was a huge chance I would never have children. I couldn’t hear this, I loved children. My boyfriend and I would spend time talking about what we would name our child. We even tried to have a baby. It was exactly 11 days after my last chemotherapy treatment that I announced the conception of our child. Again, the doctor’s labelled this an “impossible matter”, but I achieved it. It was on my mind, in my feelings and boom - I made it happen. There is no barrier in life that could ever hold us back from accomplishing anything we want to do. Anything we think about, we bring about. It’s called the Law of Attraction. I was very confused when I found out I was pregnant. I was a cancer survivor, in severe pain, a year sober from drugs and alcohol, not yet finished high school and now I had to decide if I was going to become a mother or not. I was pretty upset. No one should have to live this way at 21 years old. It is too young

THIS IS THE NEW REVOLUTION!

I have been rejected countless times by my stepfamily, friends, boyfriends, and colleagues in business. They haven’t understood me or my path. This is ok, because my family has been there to support me. I am so grateful for them and would not have survived without them. I know, my life is not normal. Everything I do is opposed to the typical. It takes very special people to fully understand. Most cannot. They do not comprehend or agree with what I am doing. That is perfectly ok. Although I have been hurt many times, I do not seek revenge, instead I work harder. I use the anger from the rejection, abandonment and abuse for my betterment and to help others. I channel it towards my goals and success. You can take any energy that is thrown at you and make it work for you. Many people tend to fall into self-pity, or a negative frame of mind

I OWN MY LIFE, IT’S MY CREATION. JUST LIKE I OWN MY SEXUALITY.

when treated poorly. They cannot see a way out and think that these people’s opinions really matter in their life. Although, the opinion’s of people you love matter, their opinion - at the end of the day - does not control your life. You can choose to use other people’s criticism for your failure or channel it for your success. Show them you are not what they say. Be the strength and live your life the way you want it to be lived. Never let anyone or anything control your destiny. Since my car accident at 17 years old, I have had countless spiritual experiences and I hear angels speak to me telling me what direction to take in life and why. For the past 10 years, I have followed under their guidance. Look at where I am today. It has done nothing but worked. Sometimes I don’t listen and I end up paying for it. After years of abuse, I have learned to always stay true to myself, no matter what people say or try to make me do, I will always do what I need to be happy. I had made a mess of my life, it needed a clean up. I changed everything in my life and removed the negative. Today, I eat healthy, exercise daily, joined those dance classes, and follow my passion. I discovered I was made to be a latin dancer. I have learned to surround myself with positive people who won’t leave or judge me. When you have been confronted with death, on numerous occasions, you gain a zest for life that will have you exploring life. I will try anything in life because life is short and we never know when it will end. The book, “The Secret” came out right after my daughter was born. It gave me the chance to find what I really love to do. After going on my first speaking tour, I realized that I love to public speak and help others through sharing inspiration. These two goals have been dear to my heart. Since 2006. They have carried me through the toughest of times. Instead, I thought of the people who looked up to me, the ones who were watching me, who have

to make intense decisions. So, I decided to go by the water and seek guidance. In quiet contemplation, I simply asked the universe, “What should I do with this baby?” The most crystal clear response rang through my mind. A voice spoke, “Keep her, she’s a gift.” This was crazy, I hadn’t yet found out the sex of the baby. But I heard, “Keep her, she’s a gift.” When I decided to keep the baby, everything rang true. The baby was a girl and the greatest gift life could give me. I feel like crying just thinking about it...she gave me strength when I had none. The tattoo you see on my wrist is my daughter’s name, with a daffodil for having cancer. I placed it over top of a scar I received during chemo. It reminds me where I came from and who I fight for, my daughter. She is my strength, courage, love, support and I owe her everything in my life. Without her, I would of never left an abusive boyfriend or developed the back bone to stand up for myself. She is my greatest gift. I am so blessed to have her. She has been my drive and people’s rejection - my fuel.

COVER GIRL improved their lives because of me and it gave me strength to continue. They carried me through my toughest moments and kept me alive when I wanted to give up. My viewers have given my strength to make it through. For that, I am grateful and I thank you. Moving to Montreal, gave me the peace of mind I had been waiting for. It gave me space to breath, to start fresh and to recreate my life. It’s been two years since I moved to Montreal, my life has been perfect and I have filled it with beautiful people. We can become anything we want to be. In fact, I am developing a website that teaches you just that. This website will have you create your life the way you want it. Go to www.emilygair.com and “like” my Facebook fan page - Professional speaker: Emily Gair - and see what exciting projects are coming up! I am an advocate for no-judgement and world peace. A future filled with endless possibility, boundless freedom and a world filled with no-judgement. It sounds hard to believe, but this is the way the world is headed. Confusion must arise before the chaos subsides and peace emerges. “Sexy Inspiration”, is my calling for the change in this world. I use sexiness to inspire people towards this inner change. It is not easy but must be done. Lady Gaga is also on the path. She is judged by many out there and many can’t seem to see past her outfits. They fail to see her message. If you listen to her interviews and her lyrics, you can see that she is helping to create world peace. We are the new revolution. My life is designed to inspire you to overcome challenges and live in complete freedom. Look at my life, and see if you can not judge it. The moment you judge, you lose the message. The message is clear - do not judge. The moment you judge me and my path you are off track. Use my life as a guide and see how far you can get. Find your passion and live it. Do not judge your own path or others around you. You deserve to be happy and live in harmony. Ask yourself this. Do you think drugs, alcohol, controlling people, lack of support and understanding, constantly being lied to -- will help you succeed? No of course not! Can you be a glamour model without damaging your body? Of course you can! You can do ANYTHING you put your mind to. Find the people who support you on your journey and you will be living the life of your dreams!

INTERNATIONAL BOMBSHELL

‘‘If you are realistic about your dreams, follow them and get success. That’s what I did, and so far it seems to be working. I come from Denmark, where I started my modeling career in 2009, and now I’ve been published in several countries. I guess being adventures and having a good network helps, and after living four years abroad, spending every day among 9 different nationalities, it would be a shame not to seize the opportunity. HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH GLAMOUR MODELING ?

I always wanted to model, and in 2009, at an event, I was asked to join the modeling agency MODELSTOCK, so I took a chance. It turned out to be a wise decision; it has been a great privilege for me to be with MODELSTOCK, as the guidance has been superb since day one. They have given me so much guidance and advice on who to work with – and especially who not to work with, in addition to moving forward as a model. They really helped me to get in touch with the people who could benefit my career. WHO INSPIRED YOU IN BECOMING A GLAMOUR MODEL ?

To be honest; I don’t know! I’ve wanted this since I was very little, even before I started school. I guess I’ve been looking though magazines, or watching some TV-show, not really knowing what it was actually all about, but it really kicked off when I got to know the world of Playboy. I was drawn to this glamorous world, and prepared for my chance to step into it. HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO MAINTAIN SUCH AN INCREDIBLY SEXY BODY?

I love roller-skating! If the weather is bad though, I go to the gym. I would love to have a pool in my garden, but in rainy little Denmark, that’s too cold. I’ll have to deal with a public inside pool instead, but that’s better than nothing I guess. WHAT PART OF THAT SEXY BODY ARE YOU THE MOST FOND OF?

I think to make it in this business; you will have to be proud of most of your body. And I am. If I had to point one thing out, it would be my lips though. I have quite big lips, and in my opinion, that’s tremendously sexy. GLAM JAM NOVEMBER 2012

TELL US ONE UNUSUAL OR UNIQUE THING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT OTHERS MAY NOT BOMBSHELL KNOW.

I am actually quite shy with being naked in front of people who shouldn’t see me without clothes. For example, I hate showering among friends, but I don’t mind dropping all my clothes on set. I see it as completely different things, but sometimes I really feel stupid from hiding my boobs when with my best friends. WHAT IS THE MOST ADVENTUROUS THING YOU HAVE DONE?

At the age of 12 I moved to Belgium, not speaking French at all, French being the most common language in Belgium. I spend four years in Brussels, learning French, meeting people from all over Europe, and having a great time. I still visit the town sometimes, and it remains my favorite place to live. WHAT OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS AND GOALS ARE YOU SEEKING IN THE GLAMOUR INDUSTRY?

My plan is to make it internationally, and mainly work abroad; Denmark simply does not have enough opportunities, and since I have been involved with most notable glamour Medias in Denmark, it’s time to move on. I’m working on being able to move to L.A. when I finish as a trainee, since my big dreams are in the US, so hopefully you will all be able to see more of me. FOR THOSE INTERESTED, WHERE CAN WE FIND OUT MORE ABOUT YOU?
