Term 1 finishes next week and what a term it has been. We have had our school camps, swimming carnivals, the school cross countries and many trips to support our teaching programmes. We have worked hard and learnt a lot so the upcoming holidays have been well earned by teachers and children alike. Also thank you all for your amazing support over the past ten weeks. Enjoy the break with your families.

on Wed 5 June with the new Board taking office on the 6th June.. Please direct any queries to the Returning Officer or to Guy Naden, Board chair. Thank you for your interest.

THE GREAT GLADSTONE GALA The day has finally arrived, see you all on Sunday 10am -2pm

HAVE YOU SEEN OUR PENCILS? Our large Values pencils are still missing. They are very distinctive so if anyone does see or hear of them please let Rasam, Dave or Judith know. In addition if you are a neighbour of the school or just enjoying our grounds outside school hours and notice any unacceptable behaviour occurring please contact First Security on 0800 347 787. GLADSTONE’S SCHOOL CHARTER The 2013 Gladstone Primary School Charter has been submitted to the Ministry of Education. This has all the school goals for this year. There is a link on our website and on your children’s class BLOGs. Please take the time to look at this and if there are any questions do not hesitate to ask us.

THE GLADSTONE SCHOOL DAY A reminder our day starts at 8:45 am. A number of our students are arriving late on a regular basis. Apart from the GTV notices, they are missing important organisational information at the beginning of the day. Please can you make sure your child is at school ready to start before 8:45am. Thanks. ROAD SAFETY If you are dropping your children off at school or just driving past at the start and end of the day please slow down near the crossings. There have been a couple of close calls in the last week. Also please make sure that you do not park in the 2 minute parking as this is for drop off only and there is to be NO parking over/in driveways.

QUESTIONS THAT PARENTS COULD ASK AT OUR UPCOMING CONFERENCES TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILDREN What have you been learning about in…? What were the steps you went through to learn this/make this? What helped you to learn this? (was it the teacher/having good information/knowing what it looked like/working with a group/knowing what to do?) What are you the most pleased with? What was the trickiest part? What would you do differently if you were going to do this again? What do you think you need to work on next in this subject? What could we do together to help you with your learning in this area?

CONGRATULATIONS The following students from Gladstone have been chosen for 9th Grade Rep Soccer: Liam Baber Nathan Feyter Jackson Kirk Camerson Southgate Charlie Wyllie. Well done boys. UPDATE OF INFORMATION If there have been any changes to the custodial arrangements, change of address, change of telephone number, change of emergency contact numbers, or any other changes we would be very grateful if you would inform us as soon as possible, so our records can be corrected.

This initiative called Peoplesavers aims to ensure every house in New Zealand has at least one person trained in first aid. What is more amazing is that this initiative has been provided to Gladstone School free of charge. Like many organisations in New Zealand the Red Cross is a charitable organisation and will hold their appeal week from the 6th to 12th of May. When you see the appeal collectors please think about how you can contribute knowing the impact they have already had on your family. Have a great week and an enjoyable holiday break with your children.

CLASS REPORTS Room 1, Year 2 Yesterday I went on a bus trip. It was a bumpy ride. It was fun on the ride. The bus was a squeaky ride too. I made a crown. I enjoyed weaving too. I liked drumming as well. The long drum was my favourite. I felt awesome. When we got there I was excited because I had never been there before.

Mila Hopwood-Craig Yesterday my class went to Aotea centre. We went there by bus. The bus was fun and because we got to sit in the back. When we got to the town hall they took us into a room. It was basically empty except the front and the chairs. First they introduced themselves and we said hello in a different pacific language.

8th April 2013 Dear Parents/Caregivers RE: Student Involved Conferences/Parent Interviews: Wednesday 15th – Thursday 16th May 2013. This letter is to let you know that we have our Student Involved Conferences/ Parent Interviews on the following dates: Wednesday 15th May and Thursday 16th May from 3:15pm to 8:00pm. School will close at the normal time of 3:00pm on these days. Interview lengths are 15 minutes. This is a chance for you and your child (Years 4-6) to meet with teachers and discuss their achievement so far this year. For students Years 1-3 their participation remains a choice for you to make. Your son and/or daughter will bring home a Discussion sheet on Friday 10th May. Please talk about it with them and bring it to your interview. Amanda Goodwin, Claire Alger, Stephanie Oates, Barbara McPherson, Marion Durose, Bevan Verryt, Diane Chambers (please note Dianne is only available on the Wednesday evening), Jodene de Andrad and myself will also be available for an interview should you require one. Our aim for these discussions is to get 100% attendance so if you are unable to make any of these evenings your child’s teacher will contact you to arrange an alternative time. We are again using Online Booking for interviews. The guidelines for this are on the reverse side of this letter. If you do not have access to a computer at home these are available at our local public libraries, in your child’s classroom or feel free just to call in to the office and talk to Rasam or phone him on 846 9744 ext 700 to book your time. Online bookings will close at 9am on Tuesday 14th May. Any bookings or changes to bookings will then need to be made through the office. We look forward to seeing you on one of these afternoons/evenings. Thanks
