Connect Groups Fall 2011
From our Senior Pastor, Bruce Grubbs ... Did you know that over 100 groups meet every week either on campus or in homes, restaurants, and places of business? Over 1,400 persons are meeting in groups every week (sometimes there are over 1,700). Why so many groups? Because they help us to connect with other believers and grow in our faith. They help us to develop the special gifts and abilities God has given us. In these connect groups, strangers become friends, and friends enjoy life together.
What kind of groups do we have? Sunday Connect Groups for All Ages You might know these as Sunday School. These generally meet on Sunday mornings and can be your “home-base” where you can study, discuss, and share weekly. If you’re not in a Sunday connect group you’ll find it hard to get to know anyone at the Glade Church. The truth is, you really can’t fellowship with hundreds of people at a time, but you can develop strong connections in a group made up of fifteen to twenty.
Connect Groups that meet on Wednesday nights and other days during the week These connect groups gather for a few weeks or a few months to explore a topic of interest, deal with an issue or concern, do something together they love, tackle a task they want to see done, or develop a skill or ability in which they have an interest. Feel free to sign up, show up, and move on as you wish. Here’s my suggestion: Scan this book, find a Sunday connect group or a group that meets on Wednesday nights or other days during the week and make yourself some friends, have some fun, learn something, do something, achieve something! Visit the NEXT STEP center on Sunday mornings to get some help. It’s located in the church foyer. In Christ,
Bruce Grubbs, Senior Pastor

Family Plus Group for Parents Leaders: Michael Eubanks & David Watkins Contact #: 615-444-9550 E-Mail: firstname.lastname@example.org When: 9:15 am Where: Room 124 Our New Generations ministry operates on a principle we call "Family Plus." It's simple - we believe that parents are the key voices in the lives of preschoolers, children, and teenagers. We also believe that the church is a strong, and necessary, voice in the lives of preschoolers, children, and teenagers. We are resolved that although young people will benefit from either of these voices in their lives, the greatest benefit with the strongest impact comes when they have both of them in their lives. And to that end, we believe that the messages from each needs to be a clear, united message. “Family Plus Group for Parents facilitates another layer of support from our church to the success of your family. It encourages you as a parent trying to rear your child in a godly home. It equips you to be a godly parent and helps you, and our church, unite the messages we both send to your child for the purpose of seeing spiritual transformation in their lives, your lives, and in your family.

Life’s Healing Choices (by John Baker)
Begins August 21, 2011
Target Group: Men Leader: Bret Heckert Contact #: 615-686-9795 E-Mail: email@example.com When: 8:00 am Where: Room 150 Cost: $25 Baker's eight steps to spiritual freedom (admitting need, getting help, letting go, coming clean, making changes, repairing relationships, maintaining momentum and recycling pain) promise to help Christians overcome many kinds of addictive behaviors. Baker likens them to AA's 12-step program, but clarifies that Christ is the source of lasting change. He writes that as believers refuse to admit their powerlessness to overcome tendencies to do wrong, their lives are fraught with fear, frustration, fatigue and failure. The cure? Admitting weakness with a humble heart; then praying, writing and sharing with others about the problem. Each chapter includes moving narratives of participants in Baker's program who express how its principles changed their lives. These practical, pithy how-tos will galvanize Christians into action with the simplicity of Baker's easy-to-actualize plan.

Couples nationwide are using these techniques to achieve a brand-new level of intimacy and learning how to stop the crazy cycle of conflict, initiate the energizing cycle of change, and enjoy the rewarded cycle of new passion. What does it mean to be a “member” of the Glade Church? .
We at the Glade Church will never pursue you to become a member. In fact, you are welcome to worship here, connect in a group, and serve in a ministry (i.e. Choir, Greeters, Automotive Ministry, etc.) without being a member. But when you become a member, you will be eligible to vote on church matters, to serve in leadership, and be eligible to lead a group or ministry. Membership implies certain commitments and responsibilities as well. These include but are not limited to the following: • participating regularly in corporate worship • connecting with and participating in a small group • serving God through this church family If you desire to become a “member” of the Glade Church, you can join in one the following ways: • By receiving believer’s baptism (i.e. immersion) by which you are saying that you have received Christ. • By “statement” that you have already received Christ and have received believer’s baptism. • By simple transfer of your membership from another Baptist fellowship. • Note: If you are a believer and you are coming from a church that does not practice baptism by immersion, you may join our church by simply being baptized here. To learn more about the privileges and responsibilities of being a part of this church family you may attend a Next Step Orientation or visit our website (gladevillechurch.org) and click on “Next Step” under the “New Here?” tab.
