small groups spring 2011

From our Senior Pastor, Bruce Grubbs... Did you know that over 100 groups meet every week either on campus or in homes, restaurants, and places of business? Why so many groups? Because they help us to connect with other believers and grow in our faith. They help us to develop the special gifts and abilities God has given us. In these connect groups, strangers become friends, and friends enjoy life together.

What kind of groups do we have? On-Going Connect Groups for All Ages You might know these as Sunday School. These generally meet on Sunday mornings and can be your “home-base” where you can study, discuss, and share weekly. If you’re not in an “on-going connect group” you’ll find it hard to get to know anyone at GBC. The truth is, you really can’t fellowship with hundreds of people at a time, but you can develop strong connections in a group made up of fifteen to twenty.

Short-Term Connect Groups (Affinity Groups) These connect groups gather for a few weeks or a few months to explore a topic of interest, deal with an issue or concern, do something together they love, tackle a task they want to see done, or develop a skill or ability in which they have an interest. You can sign up, show up, and move on as you wish. These occasionally meet on Sunday mornings. Many meet on Wednesday evenings, but usually on Sunday evenings and weeknights. Some even meet during week-days. Over 1,400 persons are meeting in groups every week (sometimes there are over 1,700). Here’s my suggestion: Scan this book, find one on-going Sunday morning or home-based group and find one or more “short-term” groups and make yourself some friends, have some fun, learn something, do something, achieve something!

6th - 8th Grades Our middle school ministry exists to glorify God through the spiritual transformation of individual middle school students through the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. How we help middle school students through the process of spiritual transformation ...

COME/WORSHIP “The Premier” of Middle School students is a midweek worship opportunity for students 6th-8th grade, and usually where they walk through our door for the first time. We play games, worship through music and other arts, and students hear a relevant message of Truth. The bounce-off-the-wall outgoing and the shy, quiet, more reserved teen will both find a comfortable fit.

Wednesday Nights 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm Worship Where: “The Premier” We have a place for students to hang out with their friends over a coke or coffee, and there’s no pressure for them to do anything when they walk through the door.

56

Middle School Ministry CONNECT/GROW To help students connect with other believers and grow in their relationship with Christ, we have ongoing Sunday morning connect groups for middle school students that meet every week at 9:30 am. We dig into God’s Word and apply it directly to ever-changing teen culture. Students and caring adults discuss parents, dating, relationships, work, peer pressure, friends, values, and boundaries all within the context of God’s perfect plan for their lives. Life Groups are another way to provide a way for students to go even deeper in both their relationship with Christ and their relationships with their peers.

Sunday Morning Groups 9:30 am Bible Studies Where: “The Premier Room”

Life Groups Life Groups provide a way for students to go even deeper in their relationship with Christ and their relationships with their peers. These small groups are gender specific and meet in 6-8 week intervals several times a year, typically on Sunday nights. We find that this schedule works best for most students and the absence of the opposite sex alleviates pressure and discussion barriers for guys and girls alike.

57

Middle School Ministry SERVE/GO Middle schools students are encouraged to serve by participating in local missions and mission trips. Students who volunteer locally usually perform some type of service for the community or individuals. Our middle school ministry strategy is to have one local trip where we serve our community and one away trip working with the World Changers organization.

What does it mean to be a “member” of the Glade Church? .

We at the Glade Church will never pursue you to become a member. In fact, you are welcome to worship here, connect in a group, and serve in a ministry (i.e. Choir, Greeters, Automotive Ministry, etc.) without being a member. But when you become a member, you will be eligible to vote on church matters, to serve in leadership, and be eligible to lead a group or ministry. Membership implies certain commitments and responsibilities as well. These include but are not limited to the following: • participating regularly in corporate worship • connecting with and participating in a small group • serving God through this church family

If you desire to become a “member” of the Glade Church, you can join in one the following ways: • By receiving believer’s baptism (i.e. immersion) by which

you are saying that you have received Christ. • By “statement” that you have already received Christ and have received believer’s baptism. • By simple transfer of your membership from another Baptist fellowship. • Note: If you are a believer and you are coming from a church that does not practice baptism by immersion, you may join our church by simply being baptized here. To learn more about the privileges and responsibilities of being a part of this church family you may attend GBC 101 or visit our website (gladevillechurch.org) and click on “GBC 101” under the “New Here?” tab.
