ALETHEA MINISTRY NEWS Volume 1, Issue 22

An “eye-opening” experience “It’s so bright and beautiful!”. That was my first reaction when my daughter removed the dressing of my left eye that was operated the previous day. She had to clean the eye and put in a few drops and then put the dressing back on my eye. What a wonderful experience! The operation was successful and I could see better again – and I thanked the Lord for His blessings! For a few years I know that there were cataracts growing in my eyes. Since a month or two ago, I realized that my left eye was restricting my eyesight. I had to do something about it. An appointment was made, I saw the doctor and the operation was done. I always pray to the Lord for His help and guidance, but during this time I had another request. Please help me to stay calm and trust You. Bless the doctor who has to do the operation and all the people who help him. Let Your will be done. When the doctor was examining my eyes he suggested an operation on the right eye a week after the left one was done because I would experience the same problem with my right eye afterwards. I hadn’t planned for this! I had to get extra sick leave from the school where I am teaching. Luckily my work was up to date and the learners wrote their tests before I went on sick leave. Once again I thanked the Lord that He guided me in the work I have done. Now, while I give my eyes a rest to recover, I have lots of time to pray and to think about the Light of God, also in my life. One of my Dad’s favourite Psalms was Ps 27 and I read it again and many of the verses are so familiar to me because he taught it to me: Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?” Please read this Psalm and have peace when it ends in verse 13 and 14: “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” May the Lord bless you!

Don’t worry... believe! The words in our verse today are Jesus’ final words of farewell! In order to encourage people at such a stage and time, one cannot rely on sweet words or pretty cards from a Cardies Shop. Only the truth! Aletheia! And this is exactly what Jesus does. Whilst He is in heaven we should find our comfort in the words He gave His loved ones at His farewell-party at the table of the Holy Communion. It was a serious truth. And then He said… believe in God, and believe in Me! Do you? ~Rev Maarten
