ÂŤ Simplicity is complexity resolved Âť ~ Constantin Brancusi

About me

Hello!

My name is Giulia De Benedictis and I’m 21 years old. I’m currently studying Design and Visual Communication at Politecnico di Torino (Italy), specialising in graphic design. I’ve always had a passion for hand drawing and illustration, and my desire is to put them into practice in my future career.

Even though I’m a very complicated and thoughtful person, I believe in the power of the essential, that is the most efficient and valuable way to convey values. We tend to think that beauty is in superfluous, but we actually feel safe and satisfied with simple things. This is also why I strongly support sustainable design and everything that respects the environment. Simplicity is a fundamental condition to save our planet’s resources, but in everything we do being precise is necessary. This is the common thread that connects my projects and have a central importance for me.

Pattern collection created with analogic methods and using easily available substances, such as hand soap, shampoo and paints. Their interaction originates patterns with abstract forms and bright colours. We created three different collections of patterns, each one with its own chromatic variants. July 2018

Montserrat has changed a little bit :) We’re dealing with a sans serif geometric-style typeface, which is designed for the web. Its shapes are inspired by the signage of the historic and namesake neighbourhood of the city of Buenos Aires.

TREsh Re-use of caoutchouc plate

Recycling of a caoutchouc plate through the realisation of a support surface, with a modular and triangular structure. It is composed of three triangular modules, all obtained from a 100x70cm plate. They’ve been punctured with a metallic tube in order to stabilise and reinforce the structure. February 2018

LETIZIA Coffee pot Analysis of a coffee pot made of aluminium and ceramic, with the realisation of a model using 3 different materials. It's a group project, done during the first year of university. We realised an exam table with all the technical details, such as the orthogonal projections and a render. February 2017

The choice of this object is related to its originality compared to the traditional coffee pots. The realisation of both the virtual and real model was complex because of the peculiarity of its forms.

Most of the work was made in the laboratory, using polystyrene for most of ceramic parts, balsa wood for the components that required more precision and MDF for the water heater skeleton.

JAZZ FESTIVAL Invitation for an event

Invitation card for a musical event (Jazz Festival), 10x15cm format, printed with white ink on black paper. I realised three different versions, with little differences in terms of full and empty forms (only with outline). It's a simple and quite linear design, of immediate comprehension. July 2018

GREY’S ANATOMY Playbill Advertising poster for Grey’s Anatomy tv show, made up of some of the typical elements of the narrative, redesigned with a high level of abstraction. I decided to use Seattle skyline with the Space Needle, which represents the city tower and a syringe in the same time, as a further mention of medicine. On the top there's the series' logo and a hanging stethoscope, while at the bottom a character's quote. The format is 50x70cm and it's printed on 120g paper. July 2018
