Science Day Sustainable Sound On Monday the 18th of October we had our annual science day, with the theme this year being ‘Sound’. Pupils learnt that sounds are made by vibrations, and vibrations care caused by hitting, blowing, plucking or shaking things. They learnt that sound needs a medium to travel in, and that it travels faster in solids than liquids, and liquids than gases. Pupils undertook experiments with sound and made instruments which could vary in pitch and amplitude. Pupils made cup telephones and straw reeds. They had a ‘sound quiz’ which is actually quite difficult, and then made their own instruments from materials that would have otherwise been thrown in the bin. In the afternoon, pupils broke up into houses to perform a ‘soundscape’ where music or rhythm is put to a story to give it more depth. All houses performed really well in what was a very difficult task, but there can only be one winner, and that was Chao Praya. Well done to all pupils who showed creativity and insight throughout the very noisy day!
Build a Bear Build a Bear came to talk to our First School pupils about friendship and what it means to be a good friend. Everyone came away with a prize and had a fun filled, learning experience.
