How To Register

If you are attending a GSHNJ program as a troop/group, you must begin with two unrelated adult chaperones (both with cleared background checks on file; one of whom is female) and may add additional adults according to minimum safety ratios as outlined in Volunteer Essentials.

1. Decide which program(s) you wish to attend. 2. Be aware of the registration closing date for your event. 3. Go to gshnj.org and click on Register in the top right corner. 4. Log in and click on the “Activities” tab on the top left side. 5. Type all or part of the name of your desired program in the white search box on the right side of the page. A list of search results will appear; click “view all” and all results will appear on one page. 6. Click on the program name and click “Register Now.” 7. Follow the prompts and select who you wish to register. 8. Check out, and process your payment. 9. You will receive an email confirmation.

—Samantha, GSHNJ Ambassador Destination: South Texas Beach Aventura, 2015

Minutes. Hours. Lifetimes. Make a Difference.

One of the best ways for girls to learn about new ideas is to hear it straight from someone who really knows their stuff. Many badges, Journeys, and patch activities for girls of all ages include a “talk to an expert” section—so they can explore their world in a safe, smart, and reliable way. To help leaders locate specialists in a range of fields, we’ve created the GSHNJ Speakers Bureau: a collection of subject matter experts in the GSHNJ community who are willing to share their skills and passion at troop meetings, leader’s meetings, service unit events and more. Is that you? Is that someone you know? We are working to build a robust, helpful resource for our volunteers. If you or someone you know is interested in joining the Speakers Bureau or learning more about it, reach out to us at info@gshnj.org, or 908-518-4400.

Outdoors & Overnights

t ra i n i ng s

So your girls want to go camping... have you completed the correct training? There are three levels of Outdoors & Overnights trainings available—which one you take depends on what your girls want to do. Each step builds on the previous one, so start with O&O Step 1 and advance from there! ⬀ O&O Step 1: this is a 45-minute online self-study that introduces outdoor safety concepts and covers sleepovers in living rooms, public venues (like the Liberty Science Center), hotels, cabins, and platform tents. Cost: FREE

⬀ O&O Step 2: this is a 3-hour, in-person training that takes place at one of GSHNJ’s camp properties. It covers more advanced overnight skills like pitching tents, fire safety, tying knots, and planning. Cost: $10

⬀ O&O Step 3: this is a 3-hour, in-person training that takes place at one of GSHNJ’s camp properties. You need this level of training if your girls want to cook over a wood or charcoal fire, or use a propane stove. You’ll also get more tips on trip planning, how to make your campout girl-led, and review skills learned in O&O Step 2. Cost: $10 O&O trainings can be found on page 33 and are open for registration on our website; new dates are added on a rolling basis. Plan to complete your training several months in advance of your overnight adventure so you have time to pass these skills on to your girls. Questions? Contact us at info@gshnj.org or 908-518-4400. 41
