The branch meets at Scallops Restaurant, and Roger said Daphne had provided continuous support for 20 years, Mollie for 17 years and Kit for the last 16 years. “All have worked so hard for the Poppy Appeal.” He said Scallops and Digby’s Bar had supported the appeal for years and continued to do so, while the two charity shops not only took an appeal box every year but also made “generous donations” to the Legion’s Margot Gunn for the annual Sponsored Walk. Spreading the word By Jack Troughton MEMBERS OF Benidoleig and District Branch of the Royal British Legion manned a successful stall at the Orba Summer Fair to give information about the hard working charity. Invited by the organisers of last Saturday’s fiesta, they were able to explain how the RBL went about fundraising, its welfare provision, membership and social activities. Many expats were surprised to learn there was no requirement to be a member to receive assistance – financial, social and emotional support was available to those who had served or were currently serving in the Armed Forces and their dependents. Pictured is branch publicity officer Linda Eskriett with her dog Pipa – the pet making a determined effort to become the branch mascot! And the Benidoleig and District Branch also staged a successful ‘Day of Celebration’ at the El Cid Restaurant to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee – a party enjoyed by all which raised more than 1,100€ for the Poppy Appeal.
