Bodegas Corral, the heart of Camino Country

S

trategically located where the Northern and French Ways meet, Navarrete was the site where the San Juan de Acre Pilgrim Hospital was built the ruins of which can still be seen on the section of the Camino that passes through the Bodegas Corral vineyards.

The Altos de Corral Reserva 2010 was awarded ‘Best Spanish Red Wine’ while Don Jacobo Gran Reserva 2004 received ‘Best Rioja Gran Reserva’

It was here, in this privileged enclave that pilgrims stayed and shared their knowledge, contributing to the local wine-making culture. This helps to explain why the Corral winery speaks to a deep understanding of the art of winemaking, a meeting of the ways, and sharing of experiences, culture and life.

121 Years of history

Bodegas Corral was founded by Don Saturnino Daroca, a man deeply rooted in his native Rioja. This farmer-winemaker planted the first vines in Sojuela, a village close to Navarrete. His daughter married Don Martín Corral, whose name and coat of arms the winery still bears today. As market and production demands increased, a new winery was built in Navarrete, Rioja, in 1974, but the wine would retain its artisanal identity. 2019 is a year for celebrating at Bodegas Corral. Apart from turning 121, two of the Bodega’s wines have won awards at one of the most prestigious international competitions in the wine world. The Altos de Corral Reserva 2010 was awarded ‘Best Spanish Red Wine’ while Don Jacobo Gran Reserva 2004 received ‘Best Rioja Gran Reserva’.
