WELCOME TO SANTANDER!

S

antander, capital of the autonomous community of Cantabria , is a cozy and quiet coastal town with a large south facing bay whose beauty has made it as one of the world's most beautiful bays. Main export port Castilian during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, preserved stately streets, witnesses of the splendor of the era. A modern city largely due to the fire that took place in 1941 and destroyed its old town that had to be almost entirely rebuilt the city is characterized by being urbanized on different hills and valleys, making it have steep streets, and down steep slopes, large malls, coastal walks and sea have gained ground in a large area of the center. With thirteen beaches in their environment and numerous parks, has in the Sardinero a splendid residential area with extraordinary mansions, among which the Magdalena Palace , the former summer residence of the Kings of Spain and International University today.

Today Santander is a dynamic city with intense commercial and service throughout the year and enjoy many cultural activities. The Festival Hall has a highly rated annual program (cycles of theater, dance, opera, music ...) that culminates in summer with the Festival Internacional de Santander. Also stresses the MenĂŠndez Pelayo International University , a pioneer among the summer campus of Spain and the renovated and expanded Cantabrian Maritime Museum , in addition to the spectacular Golf MataleĂąas . The city offers splendid conditions for the ride, either by the seashore-de Cabo Mayor to El Sardinero , thence to La Magdalena , and thence to the center along Avenida Reina Victoria-contemplating its beautiful sandy beaches; is in the historic center of Puertochico to beyond Burgos Street, alternating contemplation of noble buildings with better windows of trade. Santander is rich in greenery, parks and Morales La Marga, the Pereda gardens, La

Magdalena or MataleĂąas-Cabo Mayor. The city has developed respecting its rural setting, it is also a recreational and sports: sailing, rowing, surfing and scuba diving, golf, hiking, mountain biking or rock climbing are sports assiduously practiced without leaving the city. The city covers a range of must-sees such as the Cathedral , the Palacio de la Magdalena , the arcaded square , El Banco de Santander , the Grand Casino Sardinero , or newer and Festival Hall, Exhibition and Sports . Not to mention various museums such as the Museum of Fine Arts , the Cantabrian Maritime Museum , the Museum of Prehistory , among others. A modern, cosmopolitan city that offers something for every taste, active and peaceful at the same time meets all the conditions to enjoy the stay.
