THREE FIRES COUNCIL

CENTENNIAL PILOT COURSE

Wood Badge - Be inspired as we are tasked to run the Centennial Pilot Course. It all started in 1919, so we truly are running the course which has lasted 100 years. Wood Badge is more than a mechanical course for participants to attend, it is the embodiment of the scouting spirit world-wide. For many participants this will be their "Mountaintop experience" catapulting them to an even higher level of involvement in promoting the youth program. With the planning and logistics done by a hand picked, prepared and enthusiastic staff, the course is second to none and compares to any leadership training provided. This is why our staff training is so very important, as we prepare, we do need to understand and practice as if we are in front of the participants.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY 1

NOTES FROM YOUR SPL Dear Wood Badge Staff, As I write this, we are about a week away from our first full day training session for Wood Badge and I couldn’t be more excited to get started. Many of us have been through this before and know what to expect on our first weekend when we start presenting content and digging into the details of the curriculum. For Troop Guides, however, this weekend will be your first and for many, the first time you will present in front of a group of your peers. I wanted to take a moment to let you know we have your back. You see, we were all Troop Guides once and can appreciate the stress and anxiety you might be feeling. That is one of the reasons that the senior staff is, well, the senior staff. They are there as a resource to you. Pick their brains, ask questions, seek their council when something is unclear—it’s what they are there for. You also have a great resource in your immediate leader—Gregory Kontos. I don’t think I’ve meet someone with as much enthusiasm and passion for helping others. For the rest of us, let’s be mentors and coaches during the upcoming Staff Development days and weekend. Tim Fortier, Senior Patrol Leader

ASK ALICE Dear Alice, Really looking forward to be part of C7-127-19! My question has to do with the course mentor, David George and centers around "Leave No Trace.” Are all of the hair products he uses environmentally safe? Signed Eco-Concerned Wood Badger Dear Eco, As Scouts and Scouters we practice Leave No Trace. I was concerned like you, so I did a little research. Botanical Services Institute (BS Institute) was contacted, who then asked for a hair sample. I am happy to report Mr. George’s hair sample not only follows Leave No Trace, but also adheres to the strict Non-GMO/Eco Friendly policies instilled by the BS Institute and is certified safe and extremely stylish. Don’t fear, DG’s coif is AAA+ Certified, and has puppy tails wagging all through the western suburbs. Alice
