LIGHT SCREEN Semester: Length: Professor: Assistent: Developement:

1 2 weeks Dieter Dietz Patricia Guaita in pairs

“The excessive light, violent and merciless, reveals every atom removing charm and flattening the individual objects. Opacity on the other hand, hiding, sharpens the other senses, to hear, smell, touch Junichiro Tanizaki, In Praise of Shadows, 1933

VERTICAL CITY Semester: Length: Professor: Assistent: Developement:

2 1 semester Dieter Dietz Arabella Masson personal

The vertical city is proposed as a solution to the continuous urban development. The house for a biologist allows the addition of a green space accessible to the public, but is also a way to hide and take refuge in their own domestic intimacy. The living space develops like a parasite of the main structure, in which the massiveness of the cement comes into opposition with a feeling of lightness. The laboratory on the first floor is surrounded by greenery while the house itself seems to float above it.

ARTISTS’ RETREAT Semester: Length: Professor: Assistent: Developement:

3 1 semester Jeannette Kuo Dries Rodet personal

An artists’ retreat located in the mountains of Graubßnden. The volumes fit into the mountain crossing through the ridge from one side to the other visually integrating in the landscape. Their orientation generates intersections that define common and public spaces, concentrating them on the side of the entrance. When they differ, they become rooms and studios that open with a view on the opposite side. The entrance is placed in the lower part of the building, highlighting the growing sense of privacy that one reaches in the higher placed volumes

A-TYPICAL PLANE Semester: Length: Professor: Assistent: Developement:

3 1 semester Jeannette Kuo Isabelle Mancino in pairs

An office building for emerging companies. The basic concept is to find an alternative to the typical open floor. The project is organized in a sort of village, where from the central square different types of offices are accessible. This solution allows the integration of small private offices and large common areas, creating a sense of belonging and identification, but also of community and global society.

MIXITY Semester: Length: Professor: Assistents: Developement:

5 & 6 1 year Andrea Bassi Sara Martin Camara Carlos Viladoms personal

The goal of the 20’000 m2 project is to reactivate Caux sur Montreux. Instead of establishing itself as a third large isolated object in the landscape, the building tries to interact with the two existing hotels. The urban form is integrated into the continuity of the Caux Palace. Retreating from the main axis of access from the station, allows to create a large public square. The mixed program includes offices, shops, a conference center and various types of apartments. The public part is located at the base, with the task of making the square attractive.
