Prom went…

HOLLYWOOD!!! By: Eugene Colson

Last year’s Prom went well for Jerome High School. But this year’s Hollywood Walk of Fame theme was amazing. The yearly Prom for JHS went on April 10th. It started with people finding the perfect date to go with and have the greatest night of their lives! The Grand March also had an outstanding turnout, from the very beautiful colorful dresses to the charming and stunning tuxedos. The March took place in the JHS Auditorium. After the March, most people began to make their way to get more pictures taken at families’ homes or to dinner. When the time came to arrive to the dance for an amazing night, The Ballroom was packed with JHS students getting their grove on. Some went and got pictures with Ryan Thomas Photography taken. Everyone loves a good picture. When the time came to close the night out, everyone did one final slow dance to a very well known song that everyone should know; Don’t Stop Believin’. This year’s prom was incredible. Especially for the graduating Class of 2010!

Spotlight on Talent: By: Eugene Colson

For 13 years, JHS senior, Tyler Powell has been batting away at Baseball and plans to continue after he graduates and goes off to college. When he was introduced to it, by his mother, he immediately fell in love. Although he’s only been coaching and teaching at JHS for four years, teacher, Josh Clixby, has gotten along very well with Powell. Clixby has known Powell for the time he’s been here in both Football and Baseball. Clixby said that Powell is easily coachable. “Regardless of who you are, he’ll work with you and get better at it.” Powell is so talented at the game of Baseball; he’s played every position in Baseball. Clixby said that’s he’s primarily the Catcher. But has played all the infield positions, but if needed, he can play in the outfield position. Clixby said that he has a number of different options to go to school. “He could go for Wrestling. He’s very talented in that. The thing about Tyler, though, is he’s good in Football, really good in Wrestling, and very talented in Baseball.” JHS senior, Bryan Harper, met Powell when he was 11 by playing Baseball together. Harper said that he’s always been very respectful towards to all his teammate. “Tyler isn’t afraid to let his teammate know, too, that if they’re slacking, he’ll always make sure they’re always working hard.” Clixby said that Powell is extremely easy to get along with and has a great personality. “As a baseball player, Tyler constantly continues to improve the aspect of his game. Whether it’s defensively or at the plate, he works hard to always improve in some area,” said Harper.

Not Even Once

By Kaiela Saylor The Idaho Meth Project was launched in January 2008, to significantly reduce meth use in Idaho. IMP sustains a campaign that graphically communicates the realities of methamphetamine, supported by community outreach and public policy initiatives. The Meth Project’s, Not Even Once®, speaks directly to the highly addictive nature of Meth. Every day, people are faced with the decision to try Meth. Many perceive benefits in using the drug, but little-to-no risk. This is the root of the problem. The goal of the Meth Project is to arm teens and young adults with the facts about methamphetamine so that they can make well-informed decisions when presented with the opportunity to try it. On January 7, 2008, the Idaho Meth Project initiated a large-scale prevention advertising campaign across the state, targeting young people ages 12-17. This campaign included: • 67,000 TV ads • 58,000 radio ads • 140,000 print impressions • 2,000 billboards This organization is the largest advertiser in Idaho, with messages reaching an estimated 70% to 90% of teens three to five times a week with meth prevention messaging. Since the program began there have been dramatic shifts in perception of risks associated with meth use, more frequent parent-child communications, greater social disapproval, and significant declines in Meth use and associated crime. The program, which has gained nationwide attention for its uncompromising approach and demonstrated impact, has won 45 awards, including 11 Gold ADDY Awards, 19 Silver ADDY Awards, 2 Gold Effie Awards, and the Cannes Lions Award at the Cannes International Advertising Festival. The Idaho Meth Project has made a huge impact on its state, with an outstanding decline of methamphetamine usage. The Lowest Animal By: Harsha Sekhri

Coelacanth… Humans... Do you know what they have in common?

Both are considered the lowest animal. Ceolocanth makes sense, doesn’t it? Scientists consider them the lowest “animal” since they have not evolved for hundreds of millions of years, very logical. Humans? According to Mark Twain’s Satire “The Lowest Animal”, we are the lowest animal. We have 3 people’s points of view! Starting with our famous Mark Twain?

Mark Twain

- Humans descend from the animals. - While descending, we lost a bunch of good deeds. - We do things, bad things, and do it consciously! - Animals might do it too, but they do not carry the responsibility of knowing what is wrong and what is right!

Mr. Walker

- Coelocanth is the lowest form of living, since it has existed unchanged for so many years. - Taking a humancentered reference for classifying animals is not adequate. - Twain forgets all the wonderful things we do!

Ms. Rade

- The quality of your being is reflected in your interpretation of actions! - Of course Twain is very critical but there’s some truth in his ideas! - We can take his idea and try to become better people by questioning everything we do. Having the knowledge of right and wrong gives us a certain responsibility to actually do the right thing.

How would TWAIN know???

Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835 – April 21, 1910), wellknown by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American author and humorist. Twain is noted for his novels Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), which has been called “the Great American Novel”, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876). He is extensively quoted. Twain was a friend to presidents, artists, industrialists, and European royalty. wikipedia.org So, guys! He knows what he was talking about!
