ECOMING 2011 story by maia palmer
So many choices for Dress Shoppers
Many events fill the busy schedules of high school students, but one major event arrives in less than a month: Homecoming. Homecoming will be held October 22 from 8p.m-11p.m. The theme will be Once Upon a Time; think fairy tales. Expect to see a wide range of costumes there from princesses to Robin Hoods. The cost will be $7 without ASB and $5 with. A dance contract will be needed if you are bringing a guest. With the excitement of the upcoming dance comes the dreaded question of where to buy a dress. Wherever they turn, however, they are all searching for the same thing; variety. No girl wants to show up to a dance wearing the same dress as eight other people. “It’s really embarrassing to show up wearing the same thing as everyone else,” says Amanda Robinson, a 12th grader. “You want to wear something unique so you stand out.” By far, Nordstrom’s is the most popular department store. Senior Kali Noll states, “They have a lot of variety in their dresses. And it’s all high quality. It won’t rip halfway through the night. You have a pretty good chance of having a dress no one else will.” Another large draw is the world of online stores. Internet shops offer girls a huge variety of dresses and any style imaginable. The only drawback is that the dresses have to be bought sight unseen and girls do not have the luxury of trying them on. Many other girls state that they already have their Homecoming dresses, having already found the perfect dress over the summer. Surprisingly, few girls are planning on getting their dress from the new Forever 21. Those that are seem pleased with their choice, however. .
Liz Kamp, 9th grade, states that the store does have a huge variety of dresses (Astrid Medina-12th. “Not many people shop online. You have a better chance of not having the same dress as someone else.”)
(Rebecca Keenan-12th. “Forever 21 has the CUTEST clothes ever! I love all their dresses and I can always find something that matches what I’m looking for!”)
In the search for the perfect dress, the Tacoma Mall offers many choices. Outside of the mall there are even more choices like Target and local dress shops. If girls are dressing to the theme then they might want to try our local Goodwill which is having a big Halloween sale all month.Homecoming night promises a wide array of dresses, no matter where they come from.
