Making a difference together
A difference together
To help ensure our alignment with and understanding of broader societal changes and LGBTI+ community needs and expectations, GHD partners with and supports a range of related organisations. These include Pride in Diversity and InterEngineer. We also regularly participate in the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI). Apart from helping to benchmark our performance, external recognition through awards and partnerships has a positive impact on our internal culture. This is something that has been strongly acknowledged in surveys of our people and other feedback.
Pride In Diversity (PiD)
PiD is a national program coordinated by ACON, Australia’s largest not-for-profit health organisation for people of diverse sexualities and genders. PiD is the national not-for-profit employer support program for LGBTI+ workplace inclusion specialising in HR, organisational change and workplace diversity. PiD publishes the AWEI, Australia’s national benchmarking instrument for LGBTI+ workplace inclusion from which Top Employers for LGBTI+ people is determined. As a member of PiD, GHD has access to extensive support, resources, networking opportunities, training, consulting and advice via a dedicated account manager and frequent interaction with other LGBTI+ practitioners.
InterEngineer
GHD is also a member of InterEngineer, a community of LGBTI+ engineering professionals and allies from metro, regional and remote Australia that role model, advocate for and celebrate the intersection of LGBTI+ people in the engineering profession. The community is run by a committee supported by Engineers Australia.
Celebrating Mardi Gras ↓
Pictured below, as part of our Mardi Gras celebrations in 2020, our Sydney region organised tickets for our people to take part in the Mardi Gras edition of ‘Bingay’, a gay bingo hosted by local drag star Charisma Belle and Bingay’s Naomi Palmer. Together, the duo delivered an unforgettable night of bingo and fun.
In addition, Elaine Czulkowski, Associate Director of Pride in Diversity (former Fundraising Manager for the successful Marriage Equality Campaign and 2017 Sydney Woman of the Year) spoke to our LGBTI+ allies about LGBTI+ workplace inclusion as well as the history of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and why it is such an important event on the calendar.

→ GHD Inclusion Day 2018
Our inaugural GHD Inclusion Day was held in August 2018 with a focus on LGBTI+ inclusion. Different celebrations and events were hosted in each of our offices across Australia. The day also saw more than 36 new members join our Allies network and the distribution of more than 1000 rainbow lanyards which many of our people now wear proudly every day.
The aim of our annual GHD Inclusion Day is to raise awareness and support the inclusion of people regardless of their beliefs, cultural background, gender identity, age or sexual orientation.
