Foreword from our EGM - Australia
At GHD, we strive to be an inclusive community where everyone feels they belong. More broadly, our commitment recognises that our people have a life outside of work – a life which we believe can exist in harmony with their life at work. Being inclusive is about how we listen to, consider and shape our work environment. In essence it is the action of trying to create fairness.
Inclusion is our attempt to welcome and acknowledge what makes us diverse and make it a welcoming workplace, a fair workplace, creating opportunity for all, and one that embraces a human rights approach in our policies and practice.
While we've made a lot progress in this respect, I know we can and need to do more. To support diversity, we want people to be comfortable to be their authentic self, to feel that they belong, and to feel positive about fully engaging and contributing in their own way.
We know from research that Australians of diverse sexual orientation, sex or gender identity account for up to 11 percent of our population.
We also know that our clients are increasingly seeking assurance as part of their buying decisions that as a supplier, GHD has a structured commitment to inclusion and diversity. With this in mind, our Australian LGBTI+ Action Plan represents a commitment to further our credentials as an Employer of Choice and a place where people can bring their whole self to work. And on that point, throughout this document you’ll find stories about our people. We hope these serve to build understanding and inspire others to share their stories, recognising the powerful impact that personal accounts can bring about fresh thinking and greater inclusion.
Importantly, this plan builds on the solid foundations we've established in the last five years. It provides a framework for us to take the next step in our LGBTI+ Inclusion journey together.
