KISR, KNPC sign 16-month marine nature research contract KUWAIT: Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) signed Monday a contract with Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) on conducting a research study on marine nature, and spread of pollutants at KNPC two refining sites. The sites are Mina Al-Ahmadi (port) oil refinery and Mina Abdullah, with a cost of 184,700 Kuwaiti dinars for the 16-month research study. KISR director General dr. Naji Al-Mutairi, said in a statement, that this study aims at knowing the environmental dimensions and the geological and topographic nature of the refineries along with conducting necessary marine surveys to get to know their ecological status. Al-Mutairi said that, through this study, environmental samples will be collected and analyzed, then results will be checked in order to put forward proposals for the best means to carry out a plan on expanding

the two refining sites in what ensures the environmental sustainability, asserting this study comes within the framework of boosting KISR efforts on preserving the country’s natural resources. He added that the study also aims at developing scientific research to serve various environmental sectors, and establish the required balance between development and the environmental protection, noting that KNPC takes pride in KISR feats, and that the company is interested in the ecological conservation, and boosting the environmental sustainability concept. Meanwhile, Mahmoud Liri, KNPC Quality, Assurance and Suppliers’ Service Team leader, said that the oil sector allocated big sums of money in order to protect the environment, noting that KNPC set up a special department to protect the environment and preserve the human health. -KUNA
