Greater Galilee Gazette Empowering People to Be God’s People

Finding Comfort in Him God can make you comfortable in the most uncomfortable places. He can pull you out of situations you thought you'd be stuck in forever. He can give you peace, even in the midst of trauma. Before your life is over, you'll live, love and experience loss. Losing some things will actually help you to appreciate the things you still have. It's the taste of failure that makes success so sweet. How can you celebrate victory unless you've known defeat? You'll live each day not knowing what tomorrow holds, but knowing that God holds all your tomorrows. They're not in the hands of your boss, your broker, your mate, or anybody else. Nor are they in your hands to manipulate and control. No, all your tomorrows are in God's hands! So

whatever you do; get to know Him, because you'll need Him. And He'll be there for you. He'll be there when everybody and everything else has gone. He'll be there for you in the dark places. His promise to you is, '… Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning' (Psalm 30:5) However long the night, morning always comes and with it His joy. Just think, no matter how dark the night, you've always lived to see the morning. Right? Somehow His grace has protected you, provided for you, secured you, calmed and comforted you, and brought you through. Times and seasons change, but not God. He's always '… The God of all comfort… ' and He's watching over you today!

On Saturday, June 12th the new members of Greater Galilee Winston-Salem where presented their certificates for completion of their New Members Orientation classes which where taught by Minister Kwame Nyerere (Adults) and

Sister Sharon Nyerere (Youth). Unlike the Charlotte location where classes are scheduled and held in a classroom; due to limited space and access, the instructors proved their dedication by meeting with these students in their homes and even having one on one sessions during Church School. New Member Orientation teaches basic bible knowledge, Baptist beliefs, church etiquette, church procedures and a new section on financial management to help individuals to be better stewards of what God has bless them with. Completion of Orientation was a proud moment for these students.

Music Ministry Extension

Greater Galilee has been blessed to be able to have an array of talent in their new extension of the Music Ministry. Each musician brings years of experience and a unique talent for the instruments they play and the notes they sing. With no choir currently established each week these musicians bring a song that sets the atmosphere for praise and worship from the opening hymn to the sermonic selection. The presence of God is surely felt in each selection. Although

musician John Heath and Vincent Heath are not members of the Winston-Salem location; they attend and play for other local churches but are just as dedicated to being present on every Saturday. Ernest Wolfe (TIT) percussionist and Minister Shuford are members of Greater Galilee. Although these men are new to the Winston-Salem Ministry, they are no stranger to Pastor McGowens. All have played for pastor during his time in ministry. This group of men come together each week without practice and have a remarkable ability to play together and make a joyful noise unto the Lord. With this ability it has to be a gift within each of them that allows for such harmony and we are truly blessed to have such talent as part of the Greater Galilee Family.

Health Fair & Church Picnic The first Annual Health Fair was held on June 19th with great success. It was held in conjunction with the annual Church Picnic held each year after Church Empowerment Week. Approximately 300 people from the church, community and Men’s Shelter participated. The primary sponsor for the Health Fair was Presbyterian Hospital. Many free and much needed services, samples and information was provided for those who participated. The participants had the opportunity to have their blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screening. There was also someone on hand to discuss the importance and proper way to wash your hands. Other information was provided regarding breast cancer, domestic violence, Alzheimer's, Lupus, Women's Health and much more.

The game of all games; The “Young Cats vs. Old Cats.” It was something to be seen. During the first quarter the young cats started off strong and continued to lead during the second quarter. By the 2nd half the Old Cats brought their “A” game and the scoreboard started weighing heavy on their side. So what happened ? The Young Cats add plenty free throw opportunities that just weren’t making the basket, or was it the skills/spirit of our beloved Pastor once he entered the court that got the Old Cats motivated and the Young Cats scared? The referees (Min. Sherman Dargins & Deacon James Rolle) called all fair plays. While Coach D. Washington for the Young Cats called for a foul for Lady Terry coming on court to give words of support to Pastor while on the free throw line. In the end the Old Cats along with Coach M. Hudson prevailed and limped away with bragging rights. All in all it was great fun and entertaining.

“Come On, What you got?”
