From the publisher What does November mean to us? The chance to mull over the ‘perfect’ Melbourne Cup outfit? For the first time ever, we have another week to decide on the perfect fascinator, the perfect dress and the exorbitantly expensive shoes that match the outfit… that usually we have thrown together at the last minute as we accepted the lunch with the girls invite that wasn’t planned in advance. Or does it mean getting organised for Christmas? There’s less than a month to go, I know, scary! We need to start getting presents organised now… or leave it until Christmas Eve when the shopping centres resemble complete and utter chaos. But our November issue doesn’t focus on either of these two, and I’ll tell you why. Each month the Get it girls strive to bring an entertaining mix of stories for our beautiful ladies to read, but this month, we wanted to talk about the ‘unspoken’ and ‘hard to read’ stories of real Gold Coast families that have faced the most devastating of challenges. Every one of us have been put in the ‘firing line of life’ ourselves or have a friend who has been and, perhaps against all odds, amazingly, survived. The strength within our souls can often be the catalyst to change the world, or at least the world around us. I praise, admire and honour the families who have opened their hearts, their lives and their pain to share their very personal stories in this issue. I hope that through sharing, we can all learn to make a difference, and raise awareness of some tough-to-talk about topics that face our communities from time to time. In saying this, I truly believe that love conquers all… even if you feel that you’re the only one giving it, and you feel that life can sometimes be one-sided. But there exists a strange phenomenon where moral support, friendship and love can come from every side when you least expect it — just ask our beautiful Carla from last month’s issue, she’ll tell you. I have a saying: “Life gets tough — and then you just get on with it”. So let’s just get on with it girls!
