They simply don’t work well for types of businesses. What you’re after is building a community of your existing and potential customers. The more responsive and “social” your customer profile the better. This is a social marketing platform after all. It’s about the conversation. It’s virtual one-on-one relationship building. So start by deciding why your want a fan page in the first place. Deciding the purpose of your fan page will keep you focused. Keep in mind the “marketing” part of “social marketing” Early on I got snared by the social part and forgot about the business side and squandered both time and resources in the process. Don’t let that happen to you. The scope of ways to use the traffic coming to your fan page is a lot broader than you might think at first glance. An obvious goal is to increase sales. Step 2. - Set Up Your Fan Page Right Google can send you a flood of potential fans because the search engines spider Facebook Fan Pages. You’ll get traffic from Yahoo and Bing, too. So before you put a single word on the page or upload any photos, figure out what keywords your market uses to find information in your niche. Use a tool like the Google Keyword Tool or Nichebot. This will make it easy for you to rank for that particular keyword. Don't leave out this step and don't rush it. Step 3 – Get Your First 25 Fans When you first set up a fan page, Facebook issues a rather unfriendly, non –SEO URL. Once you get 25 fans, they let you choose a “vanity” page name which you can mold to your niche. Say, you’re a leadership trainer. From your keyword research you find the terms “strategic leadership”, “leadership courses” and “team building ideas” have good search results and limited competition.
