Gerdi Fonk For more than 20 years, Gerdi Fonk has combined her artistic work with her work as a clinical psychologist and (nonverbal) therapist. The meetings with many people in this context have formed and shaped her. The series of Cave Paintings were created during a 6 month stay in the South France in 2015 and 2016. It is an artistic research inspired by prehistoric art in that region. The artist visited all the sites, libraries and museums that were accessible to the public. Her impressions were translated into paintings made with the same earth pigments used in prehistoric times. Just like the artists from prehistoric times, Gerdi Fonk was inspired by shapes, colours and textures of the rocks. The engravings from prehistoric times were an important source of inspiration as well. They inspired her to create a complex networks of lines painted in different layers. www.fonkgerdi.com
