THANK YOU for your interest in Georgia Mountains YMCA Summer Camp We provide a happy, healthy environment for children to learn and grow. Children have the opportunity to build self-confidence, independence, & creativity, and parents have peace of mind knowing their child is in a safe and enriching place.


• Experienced and caring adult staff • Staff and counselors who are genuinely interested in working with children • Camper-to-staff ratio 12 : 1 for Kindergarten and 1st grade • Camper-to-staff ratio 15 : 1 for 2nd-3rd grade • Camper-to-staff ratio 18 : 1 for 4th grade and up


• Staff is First Aid and CPR certified • Staff is required to attend pre-camp training. • Staff is Basic Water Rescue trained. • Criminal background checks are performed.

EVERYONE BELONGS AT THE Y Financial Assistance Available

• Individuals and families may apply forfinancial assistance for membership orprograms such as child care and day camp. • Financial Assistance is awarded on a firstcome, first serve basis, subject to available resources. The process isconfidential and application forms areavailable at J.A. Walters Family YMCA or online. 2

CAMP DETAILS SWIM LESSONS Swim lessons are included weekly as a part of swim time. Lessons are taught by YMCA swim instructors in group settings. Remember to bring swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen on designated days.

FIELD TRIPS & BUSING Traditional Camps take one field trip per week. Sports and Specialty Camps travel schedules vary based on the camp. Local school districts bus companies assist in providing transportation for trips. Bus drivers are CDL drivers.

SWIMMING Weather permitting, all camps will enjoy trips to the pool weekly. Most camps swim at our J.A. Walters Family YMCA some camps swim at city pools. Low ratios will exist for all swim trips and lifeguards will always be present in addition to camp staff.

SAFETY Safety always comes first at the Georgia Mountains YMCA, and it begins before the first day of camp. Staff are carefully chosen using in-person interviews, reference checks, and training attendance. The Y looks to hire experienced, caring, enthusiastic, and responsible staff for all positions.


T-SHIRTS While supplies last, the YMCA will provide one t-shirt per camper. Campers are required to wear their Y camp t-shirt on field trip days. Additional shirts can be ordered for $5.00.

Walters Family YMCA - CAMP PHOENIX Traditional, Teen, Sports, Specialty Camps, Pre-K, L.I.T (May 24 - August 3) South Hall - CAMP RAVEN (Spout Springs) Traditional Camp, Teen Camp (May 29 - July 27 ONLY) Habersham County - CAMP RAIDER (TBD) Traditional Camp, Teen Camp (May 29 - August 3 ONLY) White County - CAMP LIONHEART (The Bridge Church) Traditional Camp, Teen Camp - (May 29 - August 4 ONLY) Dawson County- CAMP EVERGREEN (Kilough) Traditional Camp, Teen Camp (May 29 - July 28 ONLY) TRADITIONAL CAMPS offer exciting opportunities to explore the world we live in as well as make new friends. This is an outdoors based camp filled with laughter and fun. The children will have days filled with games, trips and swimming. Campers will begin to develop relationships, a sense of belonging, and achievement. • PRE-K CAMP SUNSHINE is a half day camp for kids ages 3-4. Your child will enjoy theme weeks, group reading time, appropriate skill building activities and swim lessons. This camp is held from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM in the Child Watch area at the J.A. Walters Family YMCA. Parents can choose a three day or five day option. Space is limited. (Must be potty-trained) • KINDERGARTEN CAMP is designed for our rising Kindergarten students (must be 5 years old). This camp will have the basic traditional camp elements but will be tailored to fit the needs of our youngest campers. Campers will learn to work and play within a group, cooperation, and begin learning about taking care of personal needs. Campers will experience riding a bus, field trips and transitions from one activity to another. SPECIALTY CAMPS are designed to bring a week of creative fun to the children. Each week has a different theme or activity and is focused on that activity throughout the week. The children will still enjoy the fun elements of camp, like swimming and playing with their friends while focusing on something they really enjoy. Each camp has a minimum number of participants required for the camp to be offered. (Campers will swim daily unless there is a field trip.) SPORTS CAMPS offer boys and girls specialized sports training and are designed to teach sports skills, fair play, teamwork and sportsmanship while reinforcing the values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith. TEEN CAMP (Rising 6th-8th grade) provides safe and supervised environment for your teens. While at camp, teens participate in a variety of activities that teach leadership, team building, social responsibility and healthy lifestyles. Each week has a different theme and focus that incorporates field trips and swimming. LEADER IN TRAINING (LIT) CAMP (Rising 9th – 10th grade) Required training week June 4-8. Please choose other 3 weeks at will. L.I.T Camp is an intensive four week camp that will develop your teen’s leadership skills through workshops and leadership challenges, encourage them out of their comfort zone, include college tour opportunities. Participation in this program will allow your teen the opportunity to volunteer in different departments within the Y throughout the Summer. This program requires a 4 week (160 hour) commitment, and will be located at J.A. Walters Family YMCA. To participate campers must fill out an application. Please visit for the program application. PARENT SURVIVAL TIPS • Drop off begins at 7:00 AM and ends at 8:45 AM. Please have your child at their location prior to 8:45 AM so they can enjoy a full day of fun! We accept no drop offs after 9:15 AM as your child’s group may be going off site that day. • Pick up is from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. You can pick your child up in the carpool line during that time. Also be sure to have your ID ready. If you need to pick up early, please go to the front desk. • We close promptly at 6pm. You will be charged $1 per minute you are late. • Your child needs lunch, snacks (we recommend 2-3) and drinks for the day. A refillable water bottle is also required. No soda or sugary drinks, please. • Your child will swim up to 3 days a week. Check their weekly schedule and send a swimsuit and towel on those days. • “WE ARE A PEANUT FREE CHILDCARE FACILITY” For the safety of all of our campers, please do not send peanut products to the YMCA with your child. • Please send your child in play clothes and tennis shoes. We play hard and have fun at the YMCA! Your child will come home dirty. No crocs or flip flops allowed for safety reasons. • Remember to get all required paperwork turned in and all payment taken care of by Wednesday the week prior to camp. Your child will not be permitted to attend camp for any reason if there is an outstanding balance or paperwork isn’t turned in. • If you need to cancel your registration for camp please contact the J. A. Walters Family YMCA. A (2) two week notice is required or the full amount for the camp will be charged. We do not give refunds for missed days. Deposits are non-refundable, non-transferable. • Please Note: The weekly payment draft will be on the Wednesday prior to each week’s camp session. • A schedule for the week is sent out via email the week before camp. • Your child must wear their field trip shirt on EVERY field trip day. No exceptions. If your child comes without their shirt, they will not be permitted to attend the trip. Extra shirts cost $5. Your child will get their shirt at parent orientation or on their first field trip day. • What NOT to bring to camp: Toys from home, electronics, cell phones, iPods, weapons or sharp objects, etc. We are NOT responsible for lost, stolen, or broken items.
