My favorite fundraiser is.... the male beauty pageant my home club puts on every year. We get guys from our club and spend days practicing for a pageant. These practices include long hours of teaching and rehearsing dances, discussing talent portions and telling what can -- and can’t -- be done. My favorite part has to be the formal wear section though because watching guys try and walk in heels is the funniest thing I have ever seen. The last practice is amazing. It’s insane to me how much of a train wreck the show can be at the beginning of the night, but no matter what, the show always manages to be pulled together just in time. The night of the show requires includes a huge portion of the club to be on their feet, whether they are doing makeup, acting as the stage manager, or just making sure the guys are doing what they are supposed to. It can be an insanely hectic night, but the outcome makes it worth it. Two years ago, we raised nearly $1700 and this year we managed to increase that to just over $1900. It’s great to have the support of the community and the school with this service project, and the proceeds all go to charities or programs that we decide on as a club.
