Richmond ’010

Kim Hairston joined the Georgia Lady Bulldog Basketball staff in May 2007 . Hairston quickly made a visible impact on the Lady Bulldogs’ recruiting, with those efforts helping Georgia ink one of the nation’s top five recruiting classes in the fall of 2008. Prior to coming to Athens, Hairston collected seven seasons of experience at Cal, Richmond, James Madison and Howard. Four of those teams reached post-season play, including the last three advancing to the NCAA Tournament. That trend has continued in Athens, with two NCAA trips with the Lady Bulldogs. “I am extremely excited to be a part of the tradition and academic excellence which it is known for,” Hairston said when she was hired. “This is truly a chance of

a lifetime for me full of new challenges and potential growth.” Most recently before coming to Athens, Hairston spent two seasons as an assistant at Cal where the Bears earned back-to-back bids to the NCAAs for the first time since 1993. Hairston helped Cal compile a combined 41-21 record in 2005-06 and 2006-07. Hairston spent the 2004-05 campaign on the staff at Richmond, her alma mater, when the 23-8 Spiders received their first NCAA bid in 14 seasons. Hairston also worked three seasons at James Madison and one at Howard. She was an assistant at JMU from 2000-01 and 2002-04, including the Dukes’ team which reached the semifinals of the 2001 WNIT. tween, Hairston was an assistant coach at Howard in 2001-02 when the Bison finished first in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) standings. Hairston was an AA All-State pick and a three-time District and Regional Player of the Year at Bassett High School. Hairston began her collegiate playing career at Radford where she was the 1996 Big South Rookie of the Year while playing for the Highlanders’ NCAA Tournament team. She then transferred to Richmond, where she was a three-year letterwinner and co-captain in 2000, the same season she was named to the CAA All-Defensive team. Hairston received her bachelor’s degree in sport science from Richmond in 2000.
