The 1981 edition of the Lady Bulldogs made major strides in the University of Georgia’s ascension to one of the premier programs in the nation. That season contained numerous initial milestones in the history of Lady Bulldog Basketball, including the first 20-win season, the first victory over a ranked opponent and the first-ever Georgia AIAW title. The Lady Bulldogs captured the state tournament championship just two years after being the last seed in the 1978 tourney. Georgia completed the campaign in impressive fashion by winning the 1981 NWIT title in Amarillo, Texas, where both Cynthia Collins and Wanda Holloway were tabbed NWIT All-Americans.
