The name Bunny Fuller sports a distinctive asterisk in Lady Bulldog annals. Fuller is the only person who was victorious in both the first intercollegiate women’s basketball game in UGA history as well as the first game played in Stegeman Coliseum. In UGA’s first-ever game on Jan. 12, 1974, Fuller scored a game-high 15 points to lead Middle Georgia to a 54-44 win over the Lady Bulldogs. “That was the first time we ever played against a big school like Georgia,” Fuller, now Bunny Harris, recalled. “Georgia didn’t have basketball before then and that’s one of the reasons I went to Middle Georgia. I had never played in a game where both the time and the score were kept on a chalk board.” (photo above) 2009-10 Lad y Bulldo G Basketball

That fall, Fuller transferred to UGA where she was a two-year letterwinner and the leading scorer in the Lady Bulldog’s first-ever winning season. As a senior during the 1975-76 season, Fuller was a member of the first Lady Bulldog team to play its home games in the then-Georgia Coliseum. She scored 11 points in a 74-48 victory over Tift College in the season opener. “I remember the first game we played at the Coliseum very well,” Fuller said. “It was a big difference from playing in the PE building.” Fuller went on to average 18.9 points per game for the Lady Bulldogs, who finished 11-9. That average still stands as the 11th-best ever in UGA annals. She poured in a career-high 37 points against Western Carolina, a schoolrecord tally at that point and still 12th-best all-time.
