GC JOURNEYS PROGRAM Your journey with us will consist of: Transformative experiences Five (or more) select experiences specifically crafted to help you become someone beyond who you imagined you could be. These are experiences proven to help you push beyond your usual boundaries.

Three experiences are built into the GC curriculum and the fourth and fifth are your choice. Want six or seven to become a transformational ninja? We can help make that happen.

A thinking-focused curriculum A curriculum and co-curriculum that don’t simply focus on content, such as chemistry, American literature or geography, but on actively developing essential thinking skills. These skills are designed to help you become a powerful, agile and sought-after thinker who truly knows how to think creatively, analyze, innovate and more. You will document your thinking expertise in an ePortfolio that can be shared with graduate schools, employers, non-profits and others to help make the case that you possess thinking skills far beyond that of the average college graduate.

GC Student Success Highlights Georgia College Students Make Solar-Powered Golf Carts

Senior physics major Nowsherwan Sultan, senior Nick Palmer and physics student Amir Abdallah are continuing their research to make four new golf carts to join the college’s other two. They also say they hope to make current models more environmentally friendly and use aerodynamics to reduce the time it takes to charge the carts’ batteries.

The students received a $7,700 grant from Georgia College’s Office of Sustainability and another $6,000 grant from Georgia College’s MURACE (Mentored Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors) that provides stipends for researchers. The funds will purchase high-wattage solar panels.

Georgia College Mass Comm Senior Interns Among the Stars of Baseball Steven Walters is a senior mass communication major with a minor in rhetoric here at Georgia College. He is also in the Honors program, which is a program that challenges students to push themselves intellectually.

For Walters, the opportunity to work for an organization that highlights Major League Baseball’s brightest stars is one he couldn’t pass up. “...It was a dream come true. The internship also provided me an opportunity to apply my passion for journalism and baseball.”

GC’s first Boren Scholar to study Urdu in India Jonathan Mangrum is Georgia College’s first David L. Boren Scholar—a prestigious award that will enable him to spend a semester learning Urdu in Lucknow, India. There the junior economics and political science major will gain a cultural perspective while staying with a host family, but first, he will develop his skills through intensive study of the language at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
