I believe that I am a perfect candidate for a summer internship at your architectural firm. I have a passion and respect for the arts and architecture that I would bring to the office every day. I enjoy learning as much as I can about the subject of architecture. I enjoy learning about the architects who have revolutionized architecture and those that are looking to advance architecture in the future. I have a great appreciation for architecture because it is not simply about making a building with enough program, but it is also about problem solving and maximizing what the program can accomplish for the occupants. An interesting building design is great, but an interesting building design that is efficient in its layout is even better. I am currently enrolled in an undergraduate architecture program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Technology. RPI was recently ranked in the top 20 architecture undergraduate programs in the United States by ArchDaily. Being a Polytechnic Institute, a large emphasis is placed on the future of the profession digitally. We have been taught to push the boundaries in developing projects by asking questions that others do not have a direct answer to yet. In our first year-first semester studio project we began with an abstract site of Mars. We were told to invent the conditions and to question what would be necessary for a civilization to thrive in an atmosphere on Mars. At Rensselaer I have learned how to build three dimensional models both in the computer and by hand, render realistic looking images, edit photography and film in Adobe products, and diagram my ideas conceptually and representationally. I have taken courses that study construction systems, building enclosure strategies, and environmental topics. I am also highly versed in a large range of artistic mediums. I have experimented with acrylic, oil, and watercolor painting techniques. I have also been a photographer (not professionally) for 6 years now. I view photography as an important hobby for advancing my organizational skills and thinking in architecture. Professors and friends describe me as being an outstanding listener and learner which allows me to work efficiently in an office setting. In conclusion, I am excited about the opportunity to work in your architectural firm. I am well versed in computer modeling, diagram making, and model building. In addition I have a great passion for painting, photography, and learning. I look forward to collaborating with architects more established in their practices than I am and it is my belief that when individuals collaborate, brilliance is easily achieved.
