His Professional Journey As a business executive, N. Peter Kostopulos has worked with some of the most reputed Life Science companies. In 1996, he joined Debiopharm SA, based in Lausanne Switzerland, as a Director of U.S. Business and Legal Affairs. Here, he was responsible for all legal, regulatory, and business activities. He helped register with the FDA two anti-cancer drugs for treating prostate and colon cancers and negotiated two major license and development agreements which provided funding to support clinical testing and later the distribution of the products in the United States and the rest of the world.
On behalf of Debiopharm, Mr. Kostopulos negotiated another 20 other technology agreements aimed at protecting the company’s intellectual property, enlarging its pipeline of new compounds and technologies, and insuring the company’s compliance with various domestic and foreign laws and best practices. As a result of his extensive management of Debiopharm’s worldwide business, Mr. Kostopulos contributed to the extraordinary growth of Debiopharm and its affiliates during his tenure, during which time the company grew in value from $200 million to $2 billion. In 2006, after more than 12 years as one of the company’s principal business and legal managers in North America, Mr. Kostopulos left the company to resume his responsibilities as managing partner of his law firm.
Kostopulos & Associates PC, a boutique firm serving the domestic and international needs of highly regulated technology companies within the life sciences, financial services and other industries, counseling clients on matters of legal compliance and risk management, litigation and regulatory investigations, and intellectual property licensing. Over the next several years, N. Peter Kostopulos continued to serve as general counsel for several technology companies, including Cryptolex Inc. a developer of biometric security systems for the financial industry, where he worked directly with senior management and Board of Directors on several projects.
Later, he was hired by Dr. Leroy Hood, industry visionary and inventor of the DNA synthesizer, to serve as Vice President of Business Development, and responsible for managing existing alliances and expanding the companyâ€™s activities from a diagnostic business to a drug development company.
In 2013,, Mr. Kostopulos formed SwissAmerica Medical Co., in Annapolis, Maryland, where he has allied with several companies to develop and commercialize a portfolio of highmargin, all-natural “life style” non-prescription products that offer consumers with novel solutions designed to mitigate and eliminate health and legal risks associated with contemporary life, such as DeToxa™, a patented combination of dietary ingredients that been clinically demonstrated to lower rapidly and safely a drinker’s blood alcohol concentration, providing consumers with a valuable tool for managing their consumption of alcohol and avoiding the extreme discomfort of hangovers associated with excessive drinking. SwissAmerica is scheduled to launch its first product in the 2nd quarter of 2014 in at least 11 countries, including the United States and the rest of North America, Japan and Australia.

He was a partner at two national law firms the 700-lawyer firm of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice PLLC, and Watt, Tieder & Hoffar, and founded two boutique law firms, Kostopulos & Associates PC and K-Law Inc., both of which served the special business and risk management needs of domestic and foreign clients, principally technology companies. Mr. Kostopulos commenced his professional career as a regulator and law enforcement attorney with the United States Government, first in the field of antitrust at the
Bureau of Competition of the Federal Trade Commission in Washington D.C., and later as an Assistant United States Attorney in Miami, Florida and then Senior Trial Attorney in Procurement Fraud Unit of the Fraud Section within the Department of Justice, headquartered at Washington D.C.
