What a summer.
As the last echoes of “Green Trees” fade and the scent of ponderosa lingers, we’re grateful for a season that embodied its theme: The Courage to Be. This wasn’t just a phrase on banners or in Vespers talks; it shaped every part of Geneva Glen this summer.
It appeared in the camper who finally said “yes” to the climbing wall after two years of hesitation. In the staff member who spoke up and showed the grace to listen. It rang in laughter from Staff Orientation to World Friendship, in tearful goodbyes and brave first hellos. We saw bravery in all forms: quiet, bold, silly, thoughtful—each moment reminding us that our greatest power is being ourselves.
From the fairy dust of Seedlings & Stardust to the rich traditions of Knighthood and the cultural energy of World Friendship, every session ran with heart and harmony.
We reached new heights, literally, as we summited 14’ers for the first time in 25 years. Our campers set a record for American Heritage tracks completed, and Knighthood ceremonies held meaningful milestones.
Behind the scenes, our staff and leadership team operated with professionalism, care, and courage of their own. The strength of our team and the bond we share kept us grounded and growing. We welcomed new year-round leadership, gathered valuable insight for our next Strategic Plan, and hosted state legislators to champion the role of camps like GG in youth development.
This summer reminded us that Geneva Glen remains a sanctuary where courage blooms. And perhaps most importantly, we leaned into being a place where campers and staff could truly be. Be silly. Be serious. Be seen. Be vulnerable. Be brave. Be celebrated.
With hearts full and eyes on the horizon,

Woof-woof! Gus here! I really miss all my camper friends this time of year. No belly rubs, no table scraps sneaked to me, and no scratches behind my ears. Camp is a lot quieter without you! But don’t worry, I’ve been sniffing through my memories of summer and wanted to share some of my favorites with you.
Like always, the summer started with magic! Fairy dust flew, dragon eggs hid, and campers giggled ‘til their tails wagged! I tried to chase a unicorn… but only caught muddy pawprints. Still, the magic was real, and I loved every muddy, magical minute of it.
My favorite thing about the summer? The FOOD! Les, Heather, and the Craven Station team are absolute treat-masters. Every meal was paw-some! And during World Friendship, the chefs outdid themselves: Swedish meatballs, pierogis, ravioli, chicken tikka masala… every bite was tail-tastic. Plus, they snuck in fun facts about each dish. Learning AND yumminess? I approve!
Counselors, crew, and all-around staff got an A+ in heart, effort, and extra belly rubs. Big woofs to Jeff Robison, our new Year-Round Stewardship Director. He’s already fetching some major wins for GG!
All in all, it was a summer of stardust, stories, courage, and cuddly chaos. I’ve buried a few bones in the meadow and sprinkled fairy dust on every trail just for you. Can’t wait to see all your smiling faces next summer!

New campers got their first taste of the GG magic during Seedlings & Stardust—and what a week it was! A lively cast of characters joined the fun, including head gnomes Gnorbitt and Gnessa, Pirate Captain Cassidy, our Chief Magicologist, Ruby, and of course, Chewy, the talking unicorn. The Fantastic Leviathan, Ringmaster of the GG Circus, led our youngest campers through a dazzling performance that showcased each group’s unique talents.
Myths & Magic was as magical and messy as ever! Campers sang songs and put on silly skits around the Council Fire and spent a beautiful night under the stars feasting upon S’mores found at the end of the pirate’s treasure hunt. The Dirty Derby
delivered all the glorious, muddy mayhem we could hope for. This year’s improved Jello-slide took things to new heights with added speed and gravity doing their part to send campers—and staff—soaring through the sweet slime. Congratulations to Meba Getaneh and Sadie Harbaugh, our 2025 Mudpie Monarchs. May their passion for participation be an inspiration to us all.

American Heritage was absolutely bursting with energy this summer! Program participation hit an all-time high, with over 60 Tracks completed—the most since the program began. Counselor Tripp Thompson took on the role of “Trackmaster” with enthusiasm and heart, encouraging campers to dive into their interests and challenge themselves. We also unveiled a new set of Track Program plaques, now proudly displayed in the bottom of the Lodge, honoring the achievements of campers past and present.
Congrats to these individuals who earned tracks this summer!

The second year of the updated Family Group names was another big hit. Campers and counselors showed off creativity and teamwork as they explored character qualities unique to each group. We were also lucky to welcome back Dennis Velasquez, a local Indigenous flautist, whose Sunday Vespers performance filled the Council Ring with calm and beauty. His woodwind melodies paired perfectly with the heartfelt poems and reflections shared by campers.
The Spirit of American Heritage Award program expanded this year to include nominations from individual cabins and dorms, allowing us to recognize even more campers for their kindness, leadership, and grit. Congratulations to Finn Woolf and Tripp Thompson, our 2025 recipients!

Anya Mangle, these performances were nothing short of spectacular.
The 87th Pulling of the Sword was a night to remember as we crowned Dempsey Gamba and Sophie Wright as King and Queen of the Glen. Monarchs of old returned for the occasion and gathered at our second annual Monarch Mingle in Marathon Lodge, catching up and celebrating this timeless GG tradition.
Many in the royal court looked extra sharp this year thanks to alum Carrie Davis, who hand-crafted brand new costumes for King Arthur, his Knights, and four Ladies. New gowns and tunics for Guinevere and others are already in the works—so stay tuned for next summer when the entire court will look (and smell) better than ever!
We were honored to have alum Tim Hogan as our Knighthood I Sunday Vespers guest speaker, and Reid shared The Knight in Rusty Armor for Knighthood II—each reminding us that courage takes many forms, and that the world needs it now more than ever.
Talk about a Jolly band! The Fourth of July evening celebration was a night to remember thanks to the GG staff band, “Libby and the S.K.O.P.s.” They rocked the night away, their music echoing through the hills and probably the whole neighborhood! The evening ended with sparklers, glow sticks, and fireworks—a perfect GG-style celebration.

World Friendship lived up to its name this year, going big in every way, including a triumphant return to a 14’er trip for the first time in 25 years! A group of adventurous teens spent the night in Marathon before hitting the trail at dawn, summiting both Grays and Torreys Peaks under clear Colorado skies. Huge thanks go to Emily Jacobs, Seamus Cassidy, Cadence Gamba, and Paige Loughlin for leading GG to new heights, literally and figuratively!

Geneva Glen welcomed Colorado State legislators Chad Clifford, Cecelia Espinoza, and Lisa Feret, who toured camp to see how our programs bring our mission to life. We’re grateful to board members John Arigoni and Sandi Pahlke, as well as Colorado Camps Network lobbyist Jon Labadie, for helping keep us connected and supported at the state level.
The Olympics brought out the best of camp spirit: friendly competition, teamwork, and plenty of laughs across sports, games, and creative events. The Musical Review offered a stage for courage and joy, while the end-ofsummer Chautauqua Festival celebrated cultures from around the world.
A special highlight this year came from counselor Jessica House, who traveled all the way from Australia! She gave campers an authentic taste of Down Under, complete with fairy bread (a hit!) and Vegemite (the jury’s still out).
As we closed the summer, we recognized the heart of World Friendshipour campers. Congratulations to Piper Davis and Katie Mancherian, who recieved this year’s Sportsmanship Award, and to Trainee Kate Woolf and first-time camper Jed Prusso, recpients of the Peace Prize. The session ended beautifully with our Peace Ceremony and the presentation of a new World Friendship Flag, designed collaboratively by our senior campers.

In July 2022, GG alum Jeffrey Ellenoff reached out to Reid and Christa with an out-of-this-world opportunity. One of Jeff’s closest friends, Astronaut Sarah Gillis, a fellow University of Colorado alum, had been selected as a mission specialist for the SpaceX mission “Polaris Dawn.” As part of the mission, Sarah invited Jeff to send a small, lightweight personal item to accompany her into orbit.
Jeff’s heart and imagination turned toward Geneva Glen. He wanted something that symbolized the Knighthood journey and could be shared with campers and alumni for generations to come. And so, the idea for “The Spacelet” was born — a one-of-a-kind Knighthood bracelet that traveled to space!
Over the following weeks, Jeff teamed up with Christa, the Roses and Ladies, to create a bracelet that would be as meaningful as it was beautiful. Each charm was custom-designed to represent a Knighthood trait with creative twists that tied to space, science, Jeff & Sarah, and the Geneva Glen spirit. On September 10th, 2024, aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, the Spacelet officially left Earth’s atmosphere!
We are over the moon to have the Spacelet back home and on display at camp! Our heartfelt thanks to Jeff Ellenoff for his generosity, creativity, and enduring love of Geneva Glen. Thanks to him and Astronaut Sarah Gillis, a piece of Geneva Glen has literally orbited the Earth!

The 4th Annual Meadow Time Soirée was a heartwarming conclusion to our summer season, as nearly 200 guests gathered at camp for an evening of connection, laughter, and celebration. This special event continues to support our Fellowship Fund, which helps maintain camp’s infrastructure, provide camperships, steward our land, enrich programming, and fund other projects that keep Geneva Glen magical for future generations. The evening began with a lively cocktail hour at Bears Corner, where Libby & The S.K.O.P.S—a band made up of 2025 staff members—set the tone with music. Guests then gathered under the big tent, where our Master of Ceremonies, Joe Baumgardner, welcomed everyone back. The theme, “Evening Play,” filled the night with nostalgia, laughter, and singing that reminded us of the unique sense of belonging camp inspires.

Highlights of the Soirée included a spirited game of Heads or Tails, singing “Horseshoe,” a live auction, and a paddle raise. In a moving display of generosity, the Camp Family contributed over $70,000 to the Fellowship Fund through the paddle raise alone. Altogether, more than $170,000 was raised to ensure Geneva Glen’s future shines bright.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all who made this evening possible. Special thanks to our event sponsors: The Amass Family, Casey & Rebecca Miller & Liv Sotheby’s, The Arigoni Family & Hazelhamer Family, Bonnie Brae Liquor, Southwest, Stephanie Fishkin Kiley, Kristin & Quinn Cox, EriCream World Wide, FirstBank, Diane & Michael Hazel, the DEI Committee, Extended Rest Hour, The Warren Family, and the 60s/70s Group.
We are also grateful to our Development Committee—led by Jeannie Wert Gomez and Hayley Hiner, and supported by Kristin Cox, Mika Gans, Keely Haas, Sara Hazel, Tony Johnson, Chris Linsmayer, Katie Payer, Bonnie Siler, Kellie Warren, and Alana Wilson—for their dedication and creativity. The evening sparkled thanks to generous auction contributions and the efforts of our vendors: Bolder Events, Lee Stiffler-Meyer (Let the Light In Studio), Butler Rents, Tara Worley (Marigold Flower Shop), Spectrum Audio Visual, and Footers Catering & Events.
Our heartfelt appreciation extends to the Geneva Glen Board of Directors, volunteers, Whippersnappers, and year-round staff, whose steady support makes events like this possible. A special note of gratitude goes to Sara Hazel for her continued leadership in bringing this celebration to life.
As we honor Geneva Glen’s rich history, we look toward the future with gratitude and hope—knowing that camp’s legacy is carried forward by the generosity of this incredible community.

Save the Date!
The 5th Annual Meadow Time Soirée is Saturday, August 22, 2026! We can’t wait to see you there!
For over a century, countless thousands have found their way through the Marathon Lodge doors. It has always been a place for song, laughter, play, and connection. Marathon was the very first building on Geneva Glen’s grounds, built in 1919, before Camp itself was even born.
Almost a hundred years later, Ken & Nancy Atkinson looked at that venerable old building with its stone foundations, weathered floors, and faithful chimney and chose to honor what was while creating something new. Around that strong foundation, they built a space both timeless and modern, preserving its character while reimagining it for the next century of campers.
In many ways, the Marathon renovation mirrors Ken and Nancy’s leadership and legacy. They took a camp built on a strong foundation and expanded it into something greater. Never failing to keep the heart and heritage of Geneva Glen alive while finding new, innovative ways to nurture and inspire generations of campers and staff.
Every inch of that building bears their fingerprint, from the custom outlets for holiday lights to the hand-carved beams, the perfectly placed light switches, the legendary “Thames Fog” paint, and the one-of-a-kind Knighthood chandelier honoring the five generations of support from the Warner family. Marathon is not just a building; it’s a reflection of their care, their creativity, and their enduring love for this camp.
It is fitting that the Marathon Lodge, a gathering space that reflects joy, tradition, and harmony, now bears the names of Ken and Nancy Atkinson.
Our immense gratitude goes to the loyal friends of Ken and Nancy, whose time, talent, and treasure made this dedication and plaque a reality. Their love for Geneva Glen, ensures that the legacy of Ken and Nancy will, like the Marathon Lodge, stand strong for generations to come.

Geneva Glen has officially launched a Strategic Planning process to help guide our growth and stewardship for the next 5–10 years. This plan isn’t just about setting goals; it’s about boldly living our mission in ways that ensure campers, staff, and alumni continue to thrive for generations to come.
We’re seeking a diverse group of voices from across the Camp Family: alumni, parents, seasonal staff, long-time friends, and more. Want to nominate someone (or yourself)? The nominating process will remain open through November, and we encourage you to participate.
In addition to nominations, we’re also gathering input through a short survey for any member of the Camp Family. Your voice matters!

The Strategic Planning Committee will help shape this exciting vision. The committee will explore key focus areas such as:
• Mission-Aligned Program Development
•Staff Recruitment & Retention
•Financial Sustainability
•Inclusion & Belonging
•Facility & Infrastructure
•Environmental Stewardship
•Alumni & Camp Family Engagement
•Safety & Risk Management

Learn more, submit a nomination, and complete the survey at: www.genevaglen.org/strategic-planning Together, we’ll ensure that the Magic of the Glen continues to thrive well into the future.
Throughout Geneva Glen’s history, volunteers have been the heart and backbone of camp, sustaining our traditions and carrying forward the spirit that makes this place so special. From board members and program leaders to ambassadors and behind-the-scenes helpers, each person’s contribution has helped shape the fabric of our story. Every act of service is a gift, yet the Magic of the Glen Award honors those rare individuals whose devotion rises above and beyond—those who
embody our philosophy, nurture our community with love, and inspire others by the depth of their commitment to Geneva Glen.
We are thrilled to extend our heartfelt congratulations and deepest gratitude to this year’s Magic of the Glen recipients, Jeannie Wert Gomez & Hayley Hiner! For years, Jeannie and Hayley have poured their time, energy, and love into Geneva Glen, helping make our Meadow Time Soirée a shining success. As co-chairs of the Events Committee, they have dedicated countless hours to ensuring that this annual celebration not only runs smoothly but also captures the joy, spirit, and magic of camp.
Their connection to Geneva Glen runs deep—both were campers, staff members, volunteers, and committee leaders. Today, they hold perhaps the most rewarding role of all: being camper parents, watching their own children discover the wonder of GG. Jeannie and Hayley embody the spirit of service, community, and devotion that makes Geneva Glen thrive. Their leadership, creativity, and care touch every part of camp, and we are endlessly grateful for all they have given—and continue to give—to our Camp Family.

Jeannie Wert Gomez & Hayley Hiner celebrate with Sara Hazel at the 4th Meadow Time Soirée!
Thank you, Jeannie & Hayley, for your unwavering dedication and for showing us all what it means to live the Magic of the Glen.

This summer, we were thrilled to open the Jeanie Albright Lowry Alpenglow Cottage—or simply, “The Cottage.” From its very first day, this newly renovated space became a treasured part of camp life for both staff and campers. The Cottage was designed as a peaceful retreat, giving staff a place to rest, recharge, and find a quiet moment in the midst of busy camp days. It also served as a safe spot to store personal belongings and check in on the outside world.
The Cottage also became the home of our Alchemy Program, furnished by Robison and led this summer by Lauryn Long. Inside, fragrant bundles of yarrow, sage, and peppermint hung to dry as campers learned how to make shampoo, lip balm, hand cream, and more from natural ingredients. Adding to the magic, the Midnight Blues painted a beautiful mural featuring blooms from The Language of Flowers, a book used during Knighthood.
We extended The Cottage’s use outdoors by setting up a large tent with picnic tables, providing more space for alchemy activities and community gatherings. In the future, we hope to landscape the surrounding area to create an even more welcoming and comfortable environment. All in all, the Alpenglow Cottage blossomed this summer into both a sanctuary and a workshop—a place where selfcare, creativity, and community came together in true Geneva Glen spirit.

This summer brought some significant improvements to Geneva Glen’s water and well system. After surviving a lightning strike, Well 4 received some much-needed TLC, including a new motor and wiring to keep water flowing all season long.
Our Crew put in serious effort, digging more than 800 feet of trench for new water lines. These upgrades make it easier to move water efficiently around camp and improve our long-term infrastructure.
And for campers and staff, hydration just got easier! You can now refill bottles at the new water stations installed at the Mackenzie and North Hill bathrooms.

Throughout the season, foresters with the Jefferson Conservation District continued their work on our long-term forest health project, focusing on localized treatment for noxious weeds and invasive Gambel oak near Marshmallow Meadow.
Geneva Glen’s commitment to restoring the forest is starting to show real results. The land feels more open, with healthier trees, thriving undergrowth, and new paths to explore. Plus, the improved views of the Mount Blue Sky Wilderness aren’t too shabby either!
It’s a little brighter on South Hill these days. Thanks to new lighting along the trails from Cabins 14 and 15 to the Meadow, and from Cabin 9 to the Cinderblock, campers can walk safely at night without needing to rely solely on flashlights. A small change that makes a big difference!
The Rifle Range got a well-deserved refresh this summer. The backstop now sports sturdy new timbers, replacing sections that had seen better days. Over at the BB range, a fresh canvas backstop and new target wire have everything looking sharp and ready for next season.
One of the Crew’s most significant accomplishments this summer was a major slash removal project along Brookmont Road. At the recommendation of Indian Hills Fire and Rescue, the team tackled five acres of Geneva Glen property east of the Shrine, clearing ladder fuels, removing debris, and hauling out potentially hazardous materials.
