Volunteer Management Specialist (Part-time) Position Description Overview: Generations Incorporated strives to improve the literacy skills of young children through Grade 3. We also provide meaningful opportunities to older adults who serve as literacy volunteers in our partner schools and after school programs in low-income communities. These two generations are equally important to our mission. Meaningful impact and meaningful participation are mutually beneficial to both generations. We are one of the largest and most effective affiliates of AARP Experience Corps, a highly recognized national service program that engages older adults to help low income students be successful in school. Our work takes place in 16 elementary schools and after school programs in Boston and Revere. General Statement of Duties: The Volunteer Management Specialist is responsible for the recruitment of quality volunteers for our AARP Experience Corps Program and supporting the training needs of volunteers when possible. This position is for a professional looking for a flexible schedule and interested in helping to link older adults with meaningful volunteer work as a literacy tutor. Supervision Received: Reports to the Director of Volunteer Management Key Collaborations: Works closely with Volunteer Management team (includes Recruitment and Training) and entire Program Team Responsibilities:
Implement recruitment strategies in Greater Boston including Roxbury, Dorchester, South Boston, South End, Jamaica Plain, Cambridge, Brookline, Mattapan, East Boston and Revere to meet specific recruitment goals as determined by Executive Director and Director of Volunteer Management. Network with community organizations and leaders to identify potential volunteers. Develop strategies for utilizing networks and contacts of current AARP Experience Corps members to identify potential volunteers. Plan, coordinate, and facilitate weekly/monthly presentations to civic associations, faith-based institutions community organizations and other neighborhood groups where older adults may congregate Attend recruitment team meetings and collaborate with Community Outreach VISTA in regards to recruitment and outreach activities. Prepare monthly report on volunteer recruitment efforts Provide support to training staff in regards to training new volunteers and supporting current volunteers at sites Support other Volunteer Management team members as needed Participate in and provide support for organization-wide special projects and events.
Qualifications: Strong interest in the power of intergenerational relationships as solutions to community problems Comfortable speaking to individuals and groups of people Ability to work with a diverse group of colleagues and community members Strong communication skills Organization and time management skills, with attention to detail and creative thinking
Familiarity with Greater Boston neighborhoods (residents preferred) Willingness to work a flexible schedule which may include evenings and weekends Ability to work independently and as a member of a team Strong technical skills and ability to learn new computer programs which include our web-based database, internet, email, and google documents Flexible, sense of humor, and creativity when solving problems Persons of age 50 years and over strongly encouraged to apply
