2014 Colour of the Year

Pantone, one of the biggest colour authorities in the world, has named Radiant Orchid as the Colour of the Year for 2014. A combination of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid is considered “the” color to fall in love with and incorporate into your home. In their press release, Pantone encouraged the use of the colour by incorporating it in paint, accent pieces and accessories. They believe, “Radiant Orchid complements olive and deeper hunter greens, and offers a gorgeous combination when paired with turquoise, teal and even light yellows.” Because the shade is bold in nature, your whole home doesn’t have to go purple! A strategically placed statement chair or accent cushion can liven up your room and keep it on trend. Make sure you check out James Dunlop’s Folium Range (featured above) in store today.

Great Gatsby Inspired

Famous for her amazing costume design in movies such as Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby, Oscar winning, Catherine Martin has joined forces with NZ textile company Mokum. The result of this exciting partnership is the gorgeous Metropolis fabric and wallpaper range. Catherine was inspired by the glamour and decadence of the Art Deco era and the rich golds and blacks, large scale patterns and subtle geometrics in the range capture this perfectly. Sally Duggan, NZ House & Garden editor, described the range as “glamour distilled”. “This is a range that has it all: velvets, trims, embroidered linens, pearl stands…. and through it all, echoes of that fabulous free and slightly dangerous Gatsby spirit.” Make sure you come in and check out this luxurious range next time you are passing. We are in love with it!

The Latest in Sustainable Living

Leonardo DiCaprio recently brought his second ‘sustainable’ apartment, and it takes sustainable living to a whole new level. Unlike many eco-friendly homes that include LED lighting or fixtures made from recycled materials, DiCaprio’s apartment combines green living with some bizarre ‘healthy lifestyle’ features. The apartment boasts vitamin C-infused showers, posture-supportive heat reflexology flooring and optimal lighting to match your natural daily rhythm. While Lewis’s isn’t in the business of vitamin infused showers, they are still 100% committed to sustainable practices and are proud to partner with Hemptech on this journey. All of Hemptech’s linen and hemp fabrics are 100% natural, sustainable, biodegradable and recyclable. Hemp requires no chemical sprays during its growing cycle. Linen also grows well with minimal chemicals. All bleaching and dyeing of Hemptech yarn and fabric meets strict European E.E.C environmental standards. Hemptech also ships all it’s fabric offcuts to a company to recycle into beautiful recycled paper gifts. Make sure you check out Hemptech’s lastest release - the Ascent collection (featured above). Inspired by the Monarch butterfly, Ascent is part of the upholstery collection and is printed on 100% natural linen.
