I am constantly being reminded that we are a VOLUNTEER organization, when I ask others why a only small percentage of our membership is active in the detachment. I present to you the above definition. When we accepted the EGA from our DI in boot camp we became a proud member of a FRATERNITY….. FRATRES AETERNI (Brothers Forever). We agreed to live up to a code in this FRATERNITY….. SEMPER FIDELIS (Always Faithful). And we knew that life would not always be easy, SAEPE EXPERTUS (Often Tested).

Veterans on Wall Street (VOWS) is an initiative dedicated to honoring former military personnel and employees currently in the National Guard and Reserve by facilitating career and business opportunities in the financial services industry. Several financial institutions have signed up for VOWS.Ref:

I consider myself a member of this FRATERNITY, at which I volunteer my time. In a few days you will be receiving a survey letter with a stamped postcard to return. Be honest in your response. All returned postcards will be entered into a drawing for a K-Bar. The drawing will be held August 11th at the membership meeting.

Job openings at HIB 1– Training

Officer-

This person would be responsible to give short lessons on uniform code, By-laws, officer responsibilities , teach the MCL Professional development program to members 2– Flea

Market Chairperson-

With the space that we have in our parking lot, we could host a great money making Flea Market, to coincide with our BBQ’s. One event would draw customers for the other. The first one we tried flopped, because I tried to do the advertising and promotion, and not being a Flea Market devotee I did a poor job. I know there are members out there who are Flea Market people. Who wants to step up and chair these events, and make money for the Detachment to support it’s causes?

3– Barracks

Baby Sitters– we need people to stay at the barracks when events are sched-

uled and the hall is rented out to protect the interest of the MCL and the Marine foundation during these functions. This would only be on an occasional basis, but people are need to relive the few that are doing it now.

Contact me if you are interested in helping out the Detachment by doing any of these jobs…... hibcommandant@indymarines.org “PLANK OWNERS” Be Part of Making a Home for Marines and Family Members to Gather. Be Part of Preserving our Heritage and Traditions.

From: Castro CIV Jennifer L [mailto:jennifer.castro@usmc.mil] Sent: Monday, June 27, 2011 5:42 PM To: Harris, Carroll N - Indianapolis, IN Subject: children's military uniforms and toys- NMMC Carroll, I am hoping this email finds you doing well these days. I am on a hunt and am spreading my nets wide in the hope that I might be lucky enough to in fact find what I need....Maybe you can help? I am hoping to propose a temporary exhibit featuring children's military regalia/uniforms accompanied by images of the children wearing the uniforms in an exhibit case in the Museum located on the second floor mezzanine near the restaurant. The temporary exhibit will explore the practice of children "playing Marine", dressing up as Marines, etc. Oftentimes children had parents serving in the Corps who they were emulating. To emphasize this I will be highlighting child sized Marine Corps uniforms and accessories worn by children - these objects demonstrate the practice of custom tailoring Marine uniforms for children, as well as tell wonderful stories about the service members that commissioned them. You can see this in one of the photos that I have enclosed. Right now I have a 1918 uniform, a 1932 and 1935 uniform and am looking for one or two others to cover from WWII - current day if at all possible. We are hoping to use toys to further this story such as Britain toy soldiers, a doll dressed in WM officers uniform with commission signed by Gen Vandegrift, 2 WM Barbie's, coloring book from WWII, etc. Additional toys or different toys with a Marine Corps theme/story would be useful. I am specifically interested in any uniforms to include uniforms, caps, helmets, toy rifles or swords, and other items worn by children who may or may not be children of Marines - from 1935 - the current day. The WWI uniform I have is for an officer with a green coat and breeches with Lt insignia with a photo of child wearing it, I also have one officer and one and enlisted dress blue uniform with a Sam Browne belt worn by the children of the Ambassador to China in 1932-35 time frame, as well as one other miscellaneous dress blue uniform and trousers with no attribution which I would prefer not to use at this time. I am looking for any names of people, suggestions, etc, to hopefully locate any Marine Corps uniforms worn by children. I am unable to make commitments for exhibition until I see what turns up but my goal is to turn in an exhibit proposal by mid July or August if at all possible - for the Director's approval. In a private meeting with the Director she really liked the idea of exhibiting the uniforms. So what I am looking for are uniforms and or toys used by children, to further a wartime "play land", or to emulate or playing Marine. Any ideas or help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
