From the Head of Primary …... Welcome to
the start of a new term and a New Year to our new and returning students and parents of the GCS school family. This term has started with many exciting events. Last term we made contact with Coral Cove Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with whom we committed to developing a reading and writing culture, through a Penpal programme. We were all very excited when the first batch of let-
ters arrived and distributed to the students. Several children
Some children receiving their letters from Ms Hollington at assembly
have already written letters to their Penpals in Florida. This week it was a delight to see the enthusiasm and
thought that went into the development of businesses set up by the Young Entrepreneurs of Grade 5. Thank you to the children, their teachers and parents who supported them as they worked on this project which provided a real insight into what will be needed for their exhibition. Our school uniform is a reflection of who we are at GCS and we should all wear it proudly and in its entirety at all times.
Upcoming Events: Sports Days .. Feb 6-8 Mid-term break.. Feb 9-11 DSIB visit Reports … March 1 Authorisation visit … March 12,13
Although we represent our school at all times we are easily recognizable as ambassadors of GCS when in uniform. Just a reminder, there will be a second-hand uniform sale on Tuesday Jan 24 in reception at dropoff & pick –up times.
Parent Information Evening ... Inquiry in Action ….. from the PYP Coordinator Our Parent Information Session on ‘Inquiry in the Classroom’, allowed parents to enter the classroom and take on the role of student. Through practical, hands-on learning opportunities parents were engaged in the inquiry process therefore developing curiosity, questioning skills and problem-solving while integrating the core skills of Language, Mathematics, the Arts and Social Studies or Science. As we are all lifelong learners, it was wonderful seeing parents engaged in the learning process and extended their understanding on inquiry.
