Around the Green by Irene Cline It is with great sadness that we report that Chris Thomas Executive Director & C.O.O. of the Northern California PGA and President of the California Alliance for Golf has passed away. There will be a memorial service on November 15th at El Macero Golf Course. If you would like to join in making a donation to a special college fund for his children Taylor and Tara, you can do so through the "Chris Thomas Memorial Fund" at Five Star Bank, 2400 Del Paso Rd. Ste. 100, Sacramento, CA, 95834 Additional sad news is the passing of Dan Holmes, Superintendent at Brookside C.C. Dan had been battling esophageal cancer for quite some time. He gave a good fight. Danny was a long time GCSAA member and past

member of the Central California Chapter. It was just reported to the association office that Bob Dalton, Retired Member of the GCSACC was in a biking accident. He is reported to be doing pretty good considering he suffered a broken collar bone, two broken rib, two chipped teeth, and a pulled right hamstring not to mention the road rash. He is still hospitalized in Visalia and would love to hear from some of his friends. We hope for a speedy recovery for Bob. On a happier note, Glenn Matthews, CGCS had a little fun on Halloween with his spooky golf cart. Great job Glenn! The association will be sending out the annual renewals for membership dues on De-

cember 1st. . The annual meeting for the association will be held on January 15, 2018 at Sandpiper Golf Course. At that time we will hold the annual election and have the annual report ready for the membership. If you are interested in running for a board position please contact Steve Showers. We greatly appreciate Jon Christensen for hosting the 2018 Lowell Stone Charity Event at Sunnyside C.C. This was the 16th year for this event and we had a good turnout. The Charity once again this year was Youth On Course. Thank you also to Tom Johnson for his hard work in getting teams together for the event as well as obtaining numerous raffle items and sponsorships. It was a very special treat to see Lowell Stone himself make an appearance at the event.

Welcome New Members The California GCSA BMP committee continues its efforts to hire a third party consultant. The committee has narrowed the search to three excellent candidates. The BMP Selection Committee will be interviewing these applicants within the few weeks. The committee which is being headed up by Josh Heptig Golf Superintendent for SLO County., will be making the final decision after the interviews are completed. The original date of selection has been postponed as the selection of this company/individual has been more difficult than originally thought. The hope is to have the BMP Template available to all California

Chapter Members in late 2018. This process is being funded by the California GCSA which has been doing fund raising efforts for the last 4 years. All net proceeds of the California Room have been set aside to put toward the BMP Program along with a grant from the GCSAA. These fund raising efforts will continue into 2018 and beyond if necessary to enable the process to be completed. If you have questions please feel free to contact any of the California GCSA officers or our chapter representatives to the CGCSA Board , Glenn Matthews, CGCS or Tennessee McBroom.
