Trump's Border Wall By:NM
Chapter 1: Presidential Election of Donald Trump On January 20, 2017, Donald John Trump was elected president. Before entering politics, he was a businessman and television personality. Trump entered the 2016 presidential race as a Republican and defeated sixteen opponents.Trump’s fix political positions were described as populist, protectionist, and nationalist. His campaign received extensive free media coverage because many of his public statements were controversial or false. Here are some comments he has made on twitter “Any negative polls are fake news, just like the CNN, ABC, NBC polls in the election. Sorry, people want border security and extreme vetting.” “Watched protests yesterday but was under the impression that we just had an election! Why didn’t these people vote? Celebs hurt cause badly.” “An ‘extremely credible source’ has called my office and told me that Barack Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud” “Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart. She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again – just watch. He can do much better!” People had trouble with these comments because they discriminate others and is also a form of bullying. Trump won the 2016 general election against Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton which was a shock to most people and also a tragedy for some as well. He became the oldest and wealthiest person ever to assume the presidency. He was the first president without any military or government service experience. He was the fifth to have won the election but lost the popular vote. His election and policies sparked numerous protests. The election sparked lots of tension. When he first discussed running for president most people thought it was a joke and never could believe such thing would ever happen. If it did, there's no way he would get that far. Many people think he is a very outspoken racist human being. Throughout this election cycle, there would be lots of racial and derogatory comments coming out of his mouth at all times. Throughout the champaign he discussed the building of the wall. A wall to stop illegal immigration, to stop violence, and to stop the gangs and drugs pouring into our
community. The continental border between Mexico and the US stretches about 2,000 miles. Trump's budget in february set out to be 23 billion for border security. It came out to be 18 billion. He is expecting Mexico to completely pay for this wall in the end. 4 companies were set out to build this wall and already and make designs for it. All the prototypes will be 30 feet tall and 30 feet wide and will cost 500,000 to make it.
The requirements for the wall are the following -Walls need to be at least 18 feet tall 30 feet is something he really wants to get at. -A person shouldn’t be able to climb to the top without help. Walls should also include anti-climbing features that prevent scaling. -Any exposed fixtures need to be on the U.S. side to shield from possible tampering.-The U.S. side of the wall should also nicely colored, textured, and fit into the general surrounding environment -No hole larger than a foot can be made through the wall in under an hour of trying with the use of hand-held tools.
-Wall designs must be cost effective to construct, maintain and repair. The designs should be completely okay Border Patrol-approved pedestrian and vehicle sliding gates.
Personal accounts Renne, a Polish Immigrant How do you feel about the building of this wall to stop immigrant from accessing the country? I feel like this is something that needs to be done america has become very violent and filled with a drug war that comes from Mexico. Being an immigrant I was obligated to get my citizenship. This helped me feel at home and feel comfortable in America and this helps me follow the rules of this country. This is what everyone else technically should be obligated to do. Do you think it's a bit outrageous that trump wants mexico to pay for this wall, or is it a right thing to do?
I think that makes it unrealistic then. He should find some other way to fund it, but not using Mexico because they aren't going to do it.
Virginia, a Mexican immigrant How do you feel about the building of this wall to stop immigrants from accessing the country? I think many things, but I think it’s discrimination. I think this man (Trump) is discriminating against immigrants because he doesn’t have a good reason to be doing this. He doesn’t know what immigrants go through and they are coming here to make their lives better with education and work and help this nation grow. Do you think it's a bit outrageous that trump wants mexico to build this wall? or is it the right thing to do? It is very incorrect. He thinks Mexico should pay, he is crazy. He doesn’t even have the credentials to be running this nation.
