Dear Members and Community, Wow! I don’t know that this simple exclamation captures the feeling of what has transpired here at the Y over the past few months, but it is a start. Over the past few months (or is it years), I have been anxious, determined, stunned, thankful, exhausted, overjoyed, and more. Six weeks have passed since we opened the doors of our new facility and I am still processing these emotions as I reflect upon what it has taken to get to this point. My life has not been uneventful; it has not been without change and challenges. However, this experience has been singular and will not soon be forgotten. Rehabbing our old Y — and yes, I can say that after 85 years, it was old — or finding an entirely new home had been a priority for decades. I came to the organization not long after the purchase of the land upon which our Y now sits. The outline of a plan was in place, but I could not have predicted that the journey would be so arduous or the process so long. To say I was anxious at times would be an understatement, yet Y colleagues, my mentors, and a generous community ensured that doubts were replaced with determination. No one accepted denial of our dream as an option.

Our new home began to take shape, steel girders framed our future path, and then in rapid succession pools were dug, child care classrooms built, and light-filled spaces began to invite a vision of our future as opening day approached. At times, the journey took an eternity, but like life itself, in what seemed like a blink of an eye our future suddenly stood just inches in front of our eyes. To say we approached opening day with trepidation would be an understatement. Would the building be done? Would we be ready to delight, as had been our mantra as we envisioned the experience we wanted to provide in our new home? Would you, our community, embrace what had been so long anticipated? The anxiety, tension, and pressures were palpable! I leaned heavily on all of my Y colleagues for support, and they in turn leaned upon one another. We all leaned upon family, friends, and loved ones. For this support, I am eternally grateful. And then, a date that for so long had seemed mythical, was upon us. We closed a chapter in our organization’s history at 266 College Street and we opened the doors of our new home. The community that never let “no” be an option when it came to whether, or in what form, the Y would survive and thrive not only came, but you have come in huge numbers. More importantly, you have embraced what the Y mission is all about – building stronger community TOGETHER. That embrace was the salve on our bruises and scars from a long journey to get to this point, but it has also filled me with thanks, joy, and hope for the promise of what the Greater Burlington YMCA can be.
Kyle Dodson, President & CEO WINTER PROGRAM GUIDE | January 6 - February 23, 2020
We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve — and that the values and skills they learn are vital building blocks for quality of life.
FOR HEALTHY LIVING We’re passionate about improving our community’s health and well being by providing the resources and guidance to help maintain or improve physical fitness; address individual health issues such as childhood obesity and diabetes; and achieve true balance among body, mind and spirit.
FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Communities are at their best when people work together for the common good. Here at the Y, our volunteers, donors, members, partners and friends share a common goal — to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has an opportunity to give back and support their neighbors.
With eternal gratitude,
FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

APRIL VACATION SWIM CAMP Join Dynamo Swim Team this April vacation for a week-long, half-day swim camp. This camp is intended for swimmers ages 8-18 who have at least one season of competitive swimming experience. Each day we will spend an hour on dry land exercises and weight lifting safety education. We will spend 1 hour in class learning about nutrition, metabolism, hydrodynamics and propulsion theory, and how training changes the body. Time will also be devoted to analyzing race videos from the Olympics and World Championships to understand stroke mechanics. Finally, we will spend 2.5 hours in the pool working on stroke refinement. Each day we will use a submersible iPad and GoPro to take underwater film of swimmers strokes, turns and starts and then we will play back the videos immediately on an iPad to review modifications and refinements the swimmers need to make. Throughout the week we will continue to film swimmers as they progress through the changes needed for significant improvements to their strokes, turns and starts. Monday through Friday, April 20 -24 from 11:00 am-4:00 pm $130 Member/$160 Non-Members
